I had the worst experience living here, from the building to the neighbors to the staff to the management company. I was a resident from 2007-2008 and it was horrible.

First and foremost, my ceiling, windows and air conditioner would leak rainwater. This happened on 4 different occassions. Despite the maintenance staff's suggestions for aggressive repair, all that the management company (Sidal Realty) would authorize was to paint over the ceiling, caulk the windows, and duct tape plastic over the air conditioner. After it leaked repeatedly (and had obviously leaked before I moved in because of similar water damage on the ceiling) I accused them of neglect, but nothing ever came of that. I was told to talk to Chris Hanson, who works for Sidal, and it took weeks to correspond with her (through letters, because everything needed to be documented, but I don't think I ever spoke with her directly on the phone either).

Secondly, Larpentuer's staff was rarely in the office when the posted business hours said they were supposed to be. The hours changed weekly, but it was just a joke. And when I was able to speak with the staff they were rude and unfriendly.

Parking was usually impossible -- they have an open lot, but I rarely could find a spot. The neighbors were extremely loud, and when I complained to Larpenteur Manor's staff, rarely was anything done about it.

Another issue was when I went to resign my lease for another year. I thought I could handle it since I had no place else to go, but I decided I couldn't stay any longer. Fortunately for me they lost my new lease and I never signed another one since it was their own fault for being so careless. They ended up overcharging me for my rent, however, and so I showed a large balance on my account. When I moved out, they only refunded me $168.60 out of my $400 security deposit. I kept the place very clean, but they kept the rest of my money because of the balance I still had. Despite having asked them numerous times to correct the balance, they never fixed anything. When I tried to pursue getting that money back, they threatened to take me to court.

I have already reported them to the BBB and am in the process of consulting the Attorney General's Office.

The one compliment I have is the maintenance crew -- they were always there on time to fix things and they kept the grounds immaculate. They were the only courteous and professional people I encountered, and it's too bad they have to work for such a ridiculous company.

BE WARNED!!! This place is NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY.

I can't believe they got away with that. You do have rights. Sounds like a poorly run rental management. They should not have rented that apartment out with out fixing the problem. Renting it to you knowing there was, was quite frankly dumb and caused problems for you. Let them take you to court! With the documentation you had, and the problems you encountered - No Judge would have thought of that in there favor.
