Living at Park Pointe has been a catch-22. We chose the complex over the neighboring Como Park Apartments, which had more amenities and slightly cheaper rent, because of how happy we were with the management. This has still proven true over the years. They are extremely prompt regarding maintenance and any concerns we have. Typically the friendly maintenance man shows up the same day the request is made.
The Pros: Spacious living rooms, plenty of storage, prompt maintenance, friendly management, clean pool, plenty of parking, typically quiet neighbors.
The Cons: Right next to the train tracks which can be extremely loud 24/7 every day of the year. Our particular apartment directly faces the tracks. It is too loud at night to keep our windows open. This wouldn't be such a problem if the bedrooms did not get so hot in the summer (some units have central air, ours is a window unit in the living room that does not distribute well).
Also, it appears that all of the buildings have an infestation of silverfish, which are creepy little bugs that are difficult to exterminate. When friends in one unit complained to management, an exterminator showed up, but the silverfish seemed to get worse after the treatment. We bought our own chemicals and they helped substantially with the problem. I guess it depends, in part, on how clean your neighbors are, as well.

I would agree with all of the statements from the poster above. We lived at Park Pointe from 2003-2005. The maintenance was very timely and cheerful and left notes if you weren't there. We had a very large storage space/huge walk in type closet. We always felt safe in the neighborhood and enjoyed the nearness to the Como Park and Zoo and the State Fair grounds. Our neighbors were always pleasant and we had very few noise problems.
However, the silverfish bugs were a huge problem for us, as well. We would find them daily and they really creeped me out. The train tracks are very loud, but you kind of get used to it. Also, we had temp control problems with our central air/heating, it was either FREEZING cold or way too hot. No matter how many times we called maintenance, they could not resolve this issue.
Overall, it was a good place to live, for a decent rent. I would give it a B/B-.
