The first contact I had with Vailwood was an appointment with rental manager Nate Lindstrom in mid-November 2006. I didn't plan on moving to east St. Paul by any means, I was just looking at apartments because I wanted to know the market as I'd be moving in a few months (location: TBD). Nate showed me a number of units. The apartments that I looked at were great, but not for me.
However, the price for a two bedroom at Vailwood was less than I had been paying for a one-bedroom in uptown Minneapolis! I had to get a second opinion so I called my girlfriend and we set-up another appointment to view a two-bedroom on the ground floor. The whole while, Nate had been very accommodating with both my schedule and my girlfriend's. He stayed late to answer questions and was honest about questions most apartment managers would have lied about just to get me to sign the lease.
My girlfriend and I agreed that for the square footage and the price, it was perfect, except that it was on the ground level. My girlfriend wouldn't feel safe living on the ground level. Nate mentioned that there was a 2-bedroom apartment on the second floor that would be opening up in January, but it "had been kinda trashed."
Nate didn't want to show us the unit because maintenance hadn't been in there at all. But he took us up and we knew...We HAD to have that apartment. The bathroom is huge, the closets are huge, the master bedroom is huge...Living large indeed! The actual selling point remains the view I have off my balcony. Oh yeah, I have a balcony!
Part of the lease negotiation was painting. I signed a contract and have since painted my apartment to feel more like a home. I have two cats that love all the space too. Maintenance has always been helpful and thorough. I plan on staying with Vailwood until my girlfriend and I have enough $$ saved for a home. I love where I live. Period.
I've also recommended Vailwood to two of my friends and they're moving in ACROSS THE HALL in May. (Sorry for the capitalization, I'm just excited.)
