Great apartment for adults/family

I have lived here for about 6 months now and have found it one of the best apartments I have lived in. I looked at probably over 10 places in the greater Chesterfield area, and was quite disappointed by what I saw. I actually moved into Woodsmill Village sight unseen based on the approval rating, and I don't regret it, although I was a little scared until I actually saw the place!
So what is so great about it' The staff are terrific, and fix things quickly. I had a problem with my garbage disposal and it was fixed the next day. They always leave a note when they were in your apartment and are quite considerate of your time. I was unavailable to take delivery of a dryer, and they were kind enough to oversee delivery and installation. I have not had a problem with the facilities here at all, and the pool is nice as well. They are very good at salting the sidewalks as it is currently winter here. Let's see, maybe I'll just start a list of pros and cons....
Pros:
1) Drop off garbage service (leave it at your door, they will pick it up)
2) Recycling (same as garbage service)
3) Property well maintained (salted sidewalks, mowed lawn, etc)
4) Large apartments (I live in a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom)
5) Affordable rent (mine is $840... quite reasonable for the area)
6) NO PET RENT (many places charge $20/month/pet; BE SURE TO ASK OTHER PLACES IF YOU HAVE PETS!)
7) Quiet
8) Carports available (mine was included with apartment)
9) Access to pool
10) Close to grocery stores and Target (other restaurants, like Quoba, are starting to open closeby as well... I walk to the grocery store... it's only a few blocks away)
11) Secluded area (near a dead end street and a roundabout)
12) Screen door and balcony... nice for a cross breeze
13) Good staff
14) Plenty of parking, onstreet and offstreet
Cons:
1) "Mature" living environment. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but the residents are more of an elderly crowd. For a young single guy, this isn't a place I'm going to meet a lot of friends in my peer group. Just keep this in mind if this is important to you. This circumstance also makes this place a great family environment, so go figure.
2) A little dated. There are places where the brick is falling off, but this is more cosmetic than structural. I feel perfectly safe here. The appliances are older but are still in fine shape and work as one would expect a refrigerator to work.
3) No weight room/exercise room. This is a perk that other apartments do have around the area. However, Woodsmill Village does give you a discount to Wellbridge fitness club which is literally right across the street; however, it's still like $70 a month. Again, there is access to a pool, but if you're looking into staying fit, you might need to look elsewhere.
4) Few social activities. Again, a feature found at other apartment complexes; barbeques, winery visits... there are a few social events here in the clubhouse, but perhaps 2 -3 times a year. This is more of a mature living environment, so they do have social groups that play bridge and pinocle each week... if you're 28, you might not be so interested in this. So just be aware social activities here are at a minimum.
5) Laundry facilities in your apartment. Ok, having the option to have a washer and dryer in your apartment is great, but it's not worth an extra $50 a month. That is why my apartment is $840/month and is 2 bedrooms, 1 bath... one bathroom was converted into a laundry room. Otherwise, a 2 bedroom, 2 bath WITHOUT washer and dryer hookups is $790. I don't do that much laundry to make the $50 a month worth it, but it is nice having these in my apartment. HOWEVER, the other negative is that you have to provide YOUR OWN washer and dryer if want them in your apartment, meaning maintenance of a problem is yours. Again, great if you already have them, but paying $50 a month to use your own washer and dryer is an extra $600 a year... don't know how much laundry one does, but I know I probably wouldn't do half that in a year. Anyway, the bottom line is, it's a tad expensive to have a washer and dryer in your apartment. ON the plus side, the laundry room here is great and never busy, and at $1.25 to wash and $1.25 to dry, really isn't bad. If I had it to over, I would have got the 2 bed/2 bath and took my laundry to the laundry room (I should mention that to get to the laundry room, you do have to go outside, so take this into account in the winter as well).
Anyway, there are a lot more pros to this place, and I find it an excellent place to live. I will probably stay here until I decide to buy a house. I hope these details are helpful to you... I know they were questions I wanted to know when I was apartment hunting. Good luck!
