At first I really enjoyed living here. I liked the fact that the aparmtment was very spacious, well lit, had a washer-dryer hookup, great scenery from windows..BUT
there were many things that went wrong. The very first day I moved in it was 100 degrees and the AC was not working and the temp in the apartment was up to almost 90 degrees by the end of the day. The maintenance did fix it the same day but it's bad that I had to call maintenance on my move in date. Also I noticed while moving in that the apartment had not been cleaned before move in. They did install new carpeting and painted it but there were cigarette stains on the hallway vanity, huge pile of ash in stove, mold in bathroom and fridge, grime everywhere, I had to bleach everything and almost took a week to clean. Also the plumbing never was fixed. Almost ever month had to get tub unclogged. At first they were snaking the gunk out but after awhile they were just putting some kind of acid down drain and claimed couldnt snake out unless plumber was called...not consistent. Also during the very cold winter the blower in furnace went out. My apartment was not getting any warmer than 60 degrees. I called maintenace and they fiddled with it and fixed the blower but when I went downstairs I noticed there were wires hanging out. I explained to him about the wires and also the problem with the AC but he just shrugged me aside by saying, "these aparments are old we have to deal with what we got" (what') Not to mention the fact that the first week I lived here there was a domestic dispute in the next building with the girl screaming on the fire-escape and a rape just this year. To continue the neighbors, which we knew had continous water damage from rainfall in entry way of thier building, I mean the rain was leaking into the entry way from the rain causing a huge puddle of water and down the stairs!! ALSO...the problem of loitering...can't tell if these people are residents or wanderers but they just stay there in parking lot, use the pool or God knows where and will stare at you while in thier eye-sight, very creepy. The management can be worked with but they claim to be overloaded with job orders from the previous mgmt and seems to be the main excuse when maintenance on your home doesnt get done. I really think they are trying but are very money driven. I can't figure out between all the rent they are getting every month and the money they spent on the re-model of the leasing office and landscaping why they are letting some units go, I mean there are literally "down units" in almost every building. These are units that were started on but never finished and never to be rented again. What really bothers me is that the complex could be absolutely gorgeous and great to live in. It was built in the early 60's in a MUCH better time, better care and work-ethic. The buildings were built very well and have been through many people and situations. Even with the lack of keep up and maintenance, are doing very well but they are in DESPERATE need of care. You can't expect a place to be the Hilton after 40 years if not taken care of. Every building, whether apt, house, warehouse, etc. need care and maintenance. If walls could talk Im sure every wall in that place is angry, angry they are not being taken care of so is attracting people who also don't take care of themselves and thier homes. I tried to make it my home but the enviroment said otherwise....

Let's blame the property and management for the neighbors, ok? Like they can do anything about a domestic dispute. Maybe they should have prevented that rape, too!
Your apartment was cleaned. Perhaps not to your very picky satisfaction, but it WAS cleaned. Cigarette burns are not easy to get rid of. It's not like they can tell someone there's no smoking in their apartment. Some people are inconsiderate, some are just stupid. Cigarette burns are going to happen. Not a lot can be done about them.
If the wires are hanging out of the furnace, it would be because the new parts are retrofitted. They were not designed for that particular model, and adjustments and concessions must be made. It is SAFE, though, so your concerns and gripes are unfounded. The basement is not a playroom, it is a utilities and storage room. As long as you don't go exploring the furnace, sticking your hands where you have no business, everything will be great.
As far as the loiterers go, creepy or not, it's really NOT your concern. If you fear for your safety, call the police and let THEM laugh at you. In fact, the police cruise the property frequently, so resident's safety has never been an issue. And use of the pool is restricted to those who can prove they are residents by showing a pass. Did you not get yours?
The maintenance staff WAS overloaded with work orders from the previous management, but thanks to the patience of residents (not you, obviously), they have been able to knock those out and have gained a good handle on things. Very smooth now. (FYI, there are only a dozen "down units" out of more than 300. Not a bad ratio.)
Now, why don't you go find some OTHER buildings to talk to, onse that aren't so angry? I'm sure there's a padded one available for you somewhere?

Personally for someone with much insight as to work orders being done and the insides of the basements, and to use the word concessions - one would think either you work in the office or maybe corporate. However, we often would love to yell at or tell off our residents ths probably wasn't for the best. I understand that your hands are tied in many of things this resident has complained about. But lets face it, the residents do pay your salary. With out the residents residing in your community, you would not have a job. I know that it is hurtful for you to hear such harsh words about your product and something you obvioulsy care about but really lets kill them with kindness. Perhaps start a community neighbor hood watch. You could ask your local police department for the signs and literature. This may help the next resident feel a bit better.

I wonder if you lived in the same apartment I live in now. I would have to agree with everything you are saying. The neighbors are not bad but there is a lot of loitering by teenagers my apartment was not thoroughly cleaned when I moved in. There were dead bugs everywhere and the light bulbs not changed. The only good thing is that the rent is cheap but I guess you get what you pay for.

This is not a forum for employees or management to defend themselves. If people think that it sucks....IT SUCKS!
The customer is always right. If your overloaded with requests for broken things...then those appliances need to be REPLACED with updated new ones...RETROFITTED PARTS???Sounds to me like the maitenance guys are about as handy as a sack of wet hammers...I havn't lived here...but the reviews of the tenants will definitely will keep me from doing so. I wouldn't put my wife in danger of living around a bunch of hoosiers and rapists. I wouldn't want to live in a place that has crappy maintanance..OLD unmaintained equipment, MOLD, or any other of the problems listed. Management always defends themselves with excuses...anyone else notice that with poorly run properties...I don't get to use excuses at my job. If I underperform..I get FIRED!
and eventually....so will these crappy landlords

7 days no AC...that's all I have to say!! Been "temp" fixed MTFTF last week...working on it now. I find it kind of funny because even though I can't live in my apt now, manager took the time this morning to blame me for their own incompetence....
