STAY AWAY! Know the legal truth and protect yourself.

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
I have lived at Broadway Apartments for almost a year now, and will be vacating early. Beginning in January, I have had a problem with a neighbour who blares rock music in the late evenings and afternoons. After my fourth complaint to management, I was told by the manager that he did not consider the music a significant noise problem. The manager stated that he had gone into my neighbour's apartment and turned the stereo volume up all the way, but was not disturbed by this himself. The manager is not willing to take any action regarding my neighbour and instead suggested there is something wrong with me. In addition, the manager told me that the renewal slip I signed is a legally binding new lease! I met with an attorney, who explained to me that this is totally untrue. The manager has offered to try to sublease my apartment on my behalf, and said that he was offering for my happiness only since he is not legally required to do so. The truth is, according to my attorney, that all landlords whose tenants vacate early are required by law to try to mitigate their own debts before they can take their former tenants to court. I am going to forfeit my deposit and pay the manager extra money so that I can leave this place. PLEASE PROTECT YOURSELF AND STAY AWAY FROM BROADWAY COMMUNITIES. The manager will try to take advantage of you.
