I have lived in a one-bedroom unit at Courtyard for almost 2 years now, and I have very few complaints. It's very quiet--a nice break from the "college atmosphere" of many other apartment complexes. Most of my neighbors are either students (many undergrads like myself) or working adults. Courtyard also has the most helpful office staff I could imagine--I have never had any problems or encountered any rudeness. Maintenance issues are always resolved promptly--when my air conditioning went out in July, they had someone there less than an hour after I called. Other positives include reasonable rent, well-maintained units and grounds, plenty of parking, and the large bedroom and living room. It's also close to Shelter Gardens, which is great in the spring. The area itself is a little noisy sometimes, since it's right next to Stadium. Pulling out of the drive onto Ash Street can also be a pain when there's lots of traffic. I've always felt like it's a safe place, although it is close to some higher-crime parts of Columbia. Althoug the apartments are great, the utilities are fairly high, as the units aren't very efficient (metal windows) and there's no cross-ventilation. My hot water doesn't last more than 15 minutes in the shower, although that might just be my unit. My main complaint is with kitchen--it's TINY in the one-bedroom. I can't open the dishwasher and the cabinet under the sink at the same time, and it's impossible for 2 people too cook together. There's also very little cabinet space. Although I have a decent-sized pantry in the hall, there's only 4 small cabinets and 1 drawer for all my silverware and dishes. It would probably be fine if you didn't cook, but I do, so it's a problem. Other than that, I think it's perfect. I've looked at several other places in Columbia, but have found Courtyard to be the best by far.
