I updated this review with a few pictures (which I hope you can see) taken of things we asked Gatehouse to fix. This site didn't have pictures back in 2004! I hold a grudge and remember Gatehouse as being an arrogant, rude, poorly run, foul place with loud, rude people living there (beside some nice people who were suffering).

We are moving OUT of Gatehouse Apartments after three months because it is VERY LOUD and more. We are taking a large financial loss to just get away from this place. To complain about the noise, one must be vigilent and try to figure out where it is coming from. It could be a car in the parking lot, someone in the courtyard, or off a balcony or within an apartment. Our neighbors have a huge bigscreen TV with big speakers sitting on a shared wall. We were unable to get them to quiet down without two formal complaints. One of these people works for Gatehouse! Dormatories aren't as loud as Gatehouse.

There is litter all over the ground, sometimes broken glass. Repairs did not happen at Gatehouse until we decided to move out and then they responded to a couple very basic things promised to us on move-in day. There are water problems for the entire time we've lived there with our building flooding at the sidewalk and making it difficult to get to our cars. They are working on it but we wonder now if it is due to our constant complaints. The pool was locked yesterday (July 4) on a sunny, hot, lovely day, thwarting our plans to take a swim. Why' No signs or notices. Calling maintenance, which they claim is 24-hour, got us to a full or broken voicemail box where we could not even leave a message. 24-hour maintenance' It is maddening.

What has been the worst is the denial from the management that these things are legitimate problems . We feel THEY have broken our lease yet we are being penalized ($300 ) for leaving. Plus, we'll have moving costs and all the fees associated with utilities, etc.

We were not allowed to see our unit before moving in and the promised new carpet was not installed. We were told the laundry was just down the hall, not across a wet, soggy courtyard and in ill repair. There are many buildings and we didn't see that this particular building had peeling paint and is in disrepair. We have pictures of much of these things documenting that this review is indeed truthful.

Now to present a bit of balance here - it IS cheap, the apartment is cute, there are two swimming pools (when unlocked), and you can rent covered parking for $10 a month. They have a bus service and are close to city public transit. If noise, litter, and slow maintenance don't bother you, then you'd be fine at Gatehouse - just don't believe their hype about their noise policy and prompt service.
