I've lived here for 2 years and am happy to finally leave. The only reason I've stayed so long is the relatively cheap rent for one person. I hesitate to rate the place 1 star simply because I knew I was moving into a cheap slum.
Also, parking was good.
The bad'
The building leaks everywhere, from both rain and busted pipes. This is especially bad in the lower level, as the building sinks on itself.
The water pressure is goofed up because of the busting pipes, and the water was often unable to reach my 4th floor apartment in my first year (once every 2 weeks I'd miss a shower, something like that).
The landlord pursued, and gained, the legal right NOT to do foundation repairs. Again, pipes busting in the parking garage ceiling made more icesicles than any rain did during the winter.
The bugs are pretty terrible (the management joked that the Asian people living there brought the bugs!).
I've put in three requests for maintenance, and never had the repairman actually do anything. The maintenance personal seem to be hate the tenants, referring to them as "the damn fools" almost every time I bump into them.
Maybe they have some right, as the elevator has been urinated in about 6 times in my 24 month tenancy.
The worst had to have been the landlord's illegal attempt to jack up the rent by $10 3 months into most peoples contracts. He justified the hike by stating it was a "cable fee." The bloody contract says cable was included in rent! A few students got together and hired a lawyer, and the capitalist greedbag was forced to back down.
I was able to avoid this treatment from Hinshaw properties, since I am white. Perhaps 443STOP was a step up, since it treats every tenant with equal disrespect.
