A lovely little hell hole

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
This was my first apartment in Columbia, and for the most part I enjoyed it. I liked the easy walk to class or Downtown. I liked that my utilities were always low. I liked the view from my fourth-floor studio.
Oh, the building had its quirks. I could never get the heat to work, so I wound up buying a space heater for the winters. Even in the studio, the little window air conditioner wasn't enough to sufficiently cool the place during the summer. The door was really easy to force open, even when it was locked. I overlooked most of that, however, because I enjoyed the feeling of having my first place all to myself. I never had a problem with management, and whenever I needed something fixed it was done in a timely manner.
The second year I lived there, though, things got a little ugly. On several occasions, I went down to the parking garage to find cars broken into and windows smashed. My car got egged one night.
Then there were the trashy neighbors. Someone stole a package the FedEx guy had left by my door while I was at work. People would come home screaming at 2 in the morning. Once, someone sneaked a dog into their unit. When management told them the dog had to go, they smeared its feces into the hallway carpet.
