I moved into Kitty Hawk (Parker St. Apartments across the street) in late July of 2008. When we toured the apartment, the one the landlord showed us was very nice and very up-to-date with all of the appliances and everything. However, when I moved into my unit, things weren't exactly the same. First of all, the place smelled horrible. Something along the lines of mold and rotting milk. There was no screen door (and still isn't one even though we've put in a maintenance request multiple times), a bar from the freezer was missing, the tile around the tub was rotting, the kitchen was a mess, and my closet doors were completely broken. About a week after I moved in, I was in my bedroom taking a nap with the door locked. I put in a request to have the bar from the closet by the front door put in (that was missing as well), and the maintenance men actually let themselves into my apartment, without prior contact (which, by the way, is illegal), noticed my door was locked and proceeded to use a nail to unlock it. I heard them enter the front door, and I almost called the police since I thought I was being robbed. I've noticed that all of my neighbors consist of latino, black, and asian people. The girl above me is a huge ----, thinking she can walk around in her stilettos at 7 in the morning, but when we try to crack a coconut on the kitchen counter at 8 at night, she throws a ------- fit. the style of the apartment is atrocious, and was apparently built by crackheads in the 70's. The bathroom is absolutely tiny, even for two people to share. the lighting is also horrible. My bedroom light consists of a bar on the wall next to my door. No overhead light. Just a bar. And the 'laundry facility' that exists is absolutely disgusting. I had to dry my jeans for 4 hours because one of the washers didn't have a spin cycle. When I informed the landlord of this, all she said was 'oh'. I'm going to go ahead and say this is one of the worst places I've ever lived (including the dorms) and recommend looking elsewhere if you're looking for even a hint of class.

Good lord, what building complex are you in? I've lived in kittyhawk for two years, and (aside from the laundry room indeed sucking) haven't had any problems like that. Although I wouldn't put it past Tim (the a**hole maintenance man) to break in like that, we banned him from our apartment! By the way, how did you not notice any of the physical stuff (smell, fixtures, screen) when you toured the apartment? This complex doesn't do the "demo room" crap.

I've lived in BOTH: the condos --much better living experience, although it was under different management BEFORE ARLENE and they still sucked at getting things done right, like completely faulty wiring and a leaking roof into our living room and infant son's room. Then there are the apartment buildings across the street... I was told there were washer and drier hookups and moved promptly after a reduction in family size and income. There are no washer/dryer hookups and i was forced to sell my things. The paint guy walked in on me sleeping my first morning there, they never got a chance to paint because i guess i moved in too quickly. I was in the hospital for two weeks and my SECOND refrigerator (that's right, they had to replace one in my first week there)broke and all the stuff inside was melted and rotten. There was a woman in the office willing to help but could never get anything done because the communication in the office is all manipulated by the office 'manager' and nothing ever gets through to the head man in charge: Jason. It took them two months to replace the lining around the stove, whice they were BITCHY about doing in the first place until i informed them that I called for a COLUMBIA PROTECTION INSPECTION and was told it was a bonifide fire hazard. When the cable man came to set up the "cable ready facilities" he pulled the wire RIGHT OUT OF THE WALL for two of my outlets... 3 TVs and my internet out of one cable outlet....When i made the complaint that the obvious culprit was to low-budget siding job and the cables hanging out from under some of the siding (confirmed by cable man, mad as hell at the complex's neglect,) the response i got??? "GET DIRECT TV OR A DISH. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU ABOUT THE INTERNET!!!!" Then... came the meth heads upstairs, ALL 7 OF THEM IN UNIT, ONE NAME ON THE LEASE!!! Loud, angry, vindictively loud because the ENTIRE column of apartments were complaining about them... but they were NOT evicted. Until I consulted a lawyer... then all of a sudden it was worth expelling people not paying their rent and being little more than a nuisance. Do not expect any sympathy if you are robbed, broken into or hell i doubt if they'd show empathy if there was a rape. It has been two months since I notified them of a break in, police report and all, and my door frame is still cracked, deadbolt not replaced as requested. I made mention the last time I paid my rent (ON TIME FOR THREE YEARS) that if something didn't change SOON alternative solutions would need to be sought. They told me they didn't know what i was talking about.
Windows are not the responsibility of the office, neither are peep holes, screen doors, working doors, mold issues, broken appliances replaced in a timely manner, SHOWING UP AND DOING SOMETHING ONLY TO LEAVE A NOTE FOR SOMEONE TO **WAKE UP TO** ... what are you doing in my apartment at 7 am so quiet I can't hear you???? I hate this place. If you want anything done the way it says it's going to be done you have to consult a friggin lawyer. These people are incompetent, I'm still friends with someone from the (old) front office who left in frustration. AND NEVER MOVE TO THE TWO FLOOR UNITS ACROSS FROM HOLLY. THEY'RE FALLING APART, RIDDLED WITH DRUG ACTIVITY, PRONE TO ELECTRICAL FIRES, CONSTANTLY VISITED BY SCREAMING POLICE CARS, KIDS ALL OVER, PEOPLE SELLING OFF THEIR FRONT PORCH. But Kitty Hawk is satisfied knowing that all that drug money will surely pay the rent. This place is awful, and it's awful to see how much different things are in the different portions of "Kitty Hawk Manor." New management please, even your maintenance people are openly complaining about you now.
