After living at the Tara Apartments for one semester we are already looking for a new place to live. We have had to call maintenance on several occasions to report spiders in the apartment, though these brown recluse spiders are life-threatening the management showed little care or consideration. They left it weeks before sending someone over to lay down some traps and did not return to check them until a further phone call after more sightings some time later.
The apartments themselves are nice, of decent size, cheap, and very close to campus. It is about a 15-20 minute walk to the center of campus, which is quite convenient. The grounds are attractive and well-kept, with decent amenities (bbq, playground, pool, plenty of well-lit parking as well as guest parking) The rooms are a bit dark and the kitchens/bathrooms could use updating, but the units are a good deal for the price. However, the management is terrible(as could be expected of any school-run organization). They attempted to change the terms of my lease after I had signed it, would not release my paperwork to me after I refused their new terms, sent maintenance teams into my apartment on multiple occasions with no prior notice and with no warning knock, and are just generally extremely rude. Also, be prepared for typical university interventionism. They love to get involved in your personal life (you can't live with a significant other unless married, no smoking even outdoors, etc.) This combined with the deadly spider situation is a deal-breaker. I would definitely consider moving back if the spiders were taken care of and management was changed though. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else (Although there isn't much choice, I've looked all over Columbia and the rental options are usually appaling)
