Terrible Management, Shoddy Construction Ruin Experience

These apartments are in a nice, safe area. The community is nice and neighborly. The apartment buildings themselves look nice-- on the surface-- from the outside.
However, after living at this complex for a couple of years I came to understand quite intimately just how shoddy the construction of the buildings is. They were built cheaply 25 years ago, using the cheapest materials and cheapest appliances, and they have not been maintained properly in the years since.
When you come to look at the apartments, they'll probably show you a renovated unit with new appliances, a fresh, neat paint job, and ceiling fans in every room. What you're likely to get when you actually move in is cheap paint slapped sloppily over wallpaper, 25-year-old rusty, unreliable appliances, musty 5-year-old carpet, and ugly old cheap, rusty light fixtures. At least, that's what I got.
And I tried to make the best of it. But it is very hard to live happily in a complex where the office staff treats tenants who actually want their ancient appliances fixed or replaced when they break down like unruly serfs.
The maintenance staff is kind, skilled, and punctual, but I was often told by the maintenance people that the office refused to authorize certain repairs. For the first several months I lived in this complex, at least once every couple of weeks, water flooded into my bathroom from the bathroom upstairs. The office staff tried to blame the little boy living upstairs, insisting his splashing in the bath was somehow causing gallons of water to flood through my ceiling in a gush. It was actually a plumbing problem, but because the office staff refused to take my complaints seriously, the problem was not fixed for months. For the entire first year I lived there, only three of the four burners worked on my electric stove. I only got them to repair the burner by threatening not to renew my lease. (The assistant office manager actually promised to replace the entire stove as part of the lease renewal agreement, but then they just came in and replaced the broken burner).
This complex also has a problem with a chronic carpenter bee infestation and serious problems with ants.
It looks nice for the price. Don't be fooled. Don't live here.
