I have lived in the French Quarter for two years now. When I first moved in it was alright. It is a big apartment for a fair price, since I got it on special. They did not let me see the apartment I was going to move into until I signed the lease and actually moved in. The paint and the cleaning work was terrible, there were two big holes in the wall in my bathroom (more on that later) and there is still exposed insulation under my sink in the kitchen. The appliances are old, as are the cabinets, the baskeball court, and the place in general. After my first year was up, I found a cockroach in my apt. I flipped out, and called them numerous times to have them come and fix the problem, but they didn't do anything. I then saw two more (all were in just my bathroom) and finally threatened to move out unless they fixed the problem. It looked like they were coming from the gigantic hole in my bathroom, so the maintance guy fixed only the one hole, and then he sprayed that area himself. After I saw another one, I had to get them back to fix the second hole. I had to get bait traps, and spray the whole apartment myself, because they would not hire a bug guy to come in and do it. I have not seen any since then, so hopefully it was just a one time thing. I also have problems with spiders everywhere, and maintance has come into my apt without any warning before.
The managment used to be awful, and completely unwilling to help you, but they are getting better. However, when someone got stabbed here earlier this year, they completely brushed it off like it was no big deal, which is why I am moving out. It is no longer as safe as it was. Maintance is getting nicer, and are getting things done quicker, but still leave a lot to be desired. My neighbors are wonderful, but the new people moving in are not, they are getting worse and worse. Pool is nice, and there is plenty of parking. The walls are very thick, I never have a problem with noise. Overall, decent for the price, and the area, but beware!
