My room mate and I have lived in our 2 bedroom apartment for about 7 months now. I can sit here and agree with all of the problems on this website, needless to say there are always problems. However, we have a pretty good rate, which from what I understand and pretty standard now. Given that they raise it 2 or 3% every year w/ a new lease which I think is bull.
The apartments are nice, I've live in both 1 and 2 bedroom now. The 2 bedroom is nicer because the living room isn't on the outside wall and its a lot quiter than the 1 bedrooms, because you CAN hear people walking up the stairs if they are walking hard. I could always tell when my room mate was coming up stairs in there. I can also hear others showers, but I can't hear them personally. We also hear doors slam, but what can you expect from any apartment' I personally just deal with it and move on. Is it really that big of deal to hear a door slam sometimes or hear someone's music' Yes it can be annoying at times, but if its that bad then buy or rent a HOUSE, not an apartment. No our dishwasher isn't the best, sometimes you have to run it twice - but they pay the water. The most important things (ex: stove, fridge, washer & dryer) work fine. Of course they aren't the best appliaces but they work and they do their job.
As far as the community goes, the parking IS a joke. But we pay for carports so it isn't a worry to us anymore. Even then, its healthy to walk the distance - although it blows when you just got back from that $200 trip from Wal-Mart. I've never felt scared in our area at all - nor have I seen the cops in a "bust" way. They drive through sometimes but I'd rather see them driving through then not at all. Scary things can happen anywhere. My room mate's car got broken into last week in fact - which she didn't lock her doors that night. Luckily for her, that worked out this time because the guy next to her had his window broken. She also didn't have anything to steal in there so that's why it didn't make us that mad - they just went through everything. Just got lucky like I said.
Needless to say, I know that all of the problems are there but I just don't let them bother me. We live there and that's it. We aren't associated with the community really although we get tons of stuff for "events." We aren't "event" people. The management staff is a bit retarded at times too. For instance I had a carport first for $35 a month - and when I got it I never signed anything just paid it and went on. When my room mate got hers, they were running a $10 special so I thought "Hell, I'll park further away for $25 a month. I mean my spot is WAY closer, but that isn't a big deal to me, I just wanted the protection for my car. Well when I went in, JUST to ask, the lady kinda bit my head off rambling something about my carport was under lease w/ my apartment and I couldn't change it. I figured that would be the answer since it was cheaper. Had it been more expensive they would have said, SURE! But that's business. I understand that also.
All in all, we like our apartment. Its ours. We keep to ourselves. Our BIGGEST complaint is that the pool isn't 24 hours. It closes at 10pm which is just ridiculous, they have a camera there so they can monitor it still even if it were 24 hour. They are nice apartments, not always the quietest nor best but they are nice. Easy to get to, easy to get out of, as long as it isn't Christmas... We have our complaints but we'll deal and stay - its worth not moving again.
Oh and our utilities are pretty cheap too. They range from $50.00 or $110.00 at the hottest/coldest.
