Just so everyone knows, I am not going to remain anonymous because I am not scared about what I am about to say. First off I really take offense to alot of the previous postings because even though some of them weren't a direct shot at me, they were talking about the staff in general whom I personally and professionally know and have known and better yet, was part of. I worked at Independence Ridge for almost four years and just recently left. First off, there has never in the time I worked at Independence Ridge (I can't vouch for the staff before-hand) been a "Manager" that was "involved" with either the maintenance staff or residents. It is so funny how people post stuff like that when all they are doing is telling lies that are really hurting good people. I am personally telling you that it has never and certainly will never happen. The only way anyone that I have worked with would be involved with another resident or staff member is if they were priorly married or engaged to them. There has never been any "messing around". Now lets move on to the evictions, yes, you will get evicted if you do not pay rent. Gee, thats not rocket science, its common sense people. Does that make the office staff hate you' No. I can personally say that Marlena went out of her way with anyone and everyone to try to help them out in some way when it came to rent being late. She was and probably still is very lenient (I have seen someone cuss her out and she still helped them as much as she could) She will stick by what she says. YOU AS A TENANT HAVE TO HOLD UP ON YOUR END OF THE DEAL ALSO!!! If you give a promise date that can be taken, keep it (that is why it is called a promise date!) Some tenants must have been or are still so oblivious to the fact that they signed a LEGAL document that stated they would pay their rent by a certain date. Is it so unheard of that management will take legal action if you don't pay your rent, or do you think you can just live somewhere for free'''' I really never understood that! There is even a five day grace period for lates and still, there was even more time before legal action was considered. I am not trying to demean anyone but read some of the previous posts again and listen to how idiotic these people sound and how contradictive most of the postings are. (Were the apartments and or office staff really that bad or are they just mad because they were evicted for not paying rent') Hmmmm..... As far as the shootings go, I am definately not going to deny that something like that is a scary thing to see or hear about going on around you. I was still there when the first shooting happened and it scared everone in the office also. I can assure you that everyone in that office was and still is doing everything "in their power" (I can't stress the phrase "in their power" enough) to do whatever it takes to make Indep. Ridge safe it is the staff's home and work place also. There has never been security at the apartments and the office staff never gave out that false hope of actual roaming security guards to any prospects or any current tenants (again, I cannot vouch for anything prior than 2003.) They do however (or did when I worked there) have police officers that lived on sight whom VOLUNTEERED to drive through the complex from time to time and make sure the police department did so also. It always seemed odd to me that so many people would complain about security but failed to show up at any of the crime-free meetings that the IRA staff and the Indep. Police Dept. would have. These meetings were very helpful and the police department would explain any recent crime that was going on in the area. Unfortunately, crime is up right now and it is happening everywhere. To sum things up, yes, Indep. Ridge is 20 yrs old so things are going to break but it is a good place to live for the money. The office staff is very fair. If you are willing to stick by what you say, they will definately work with you. If you are performing any illegal activities or are involved in any illegal activities, you will be evicted. You sign a Crime Free Adendum when you move in saying you understand that. I know it is hard to believe but the office staff is NOT psychic so THEY DO NOT KNOW THAT SOMETHING ILLEGAL IS GOING ON UNLESS YOU TELL THEM SO!!! If you notice drug activity or anything suspicious, let them know immediately, they will do everything "in their power" to fix the problem legally. Proper investigation has to be done most of the time because they don't just go off of hearsay. Call the police yourself if you notice any of this, the office is not open 24-7 and a valid police report works better toward ridding any illegal activity than just saying so. READ YOUR LEASE!!!!! You have to be an adult to sign the lease so do everyone a favor and act like one! Like the previous posts say, it's not that bad. I definately vouch for the office staff and maintenance staff that I worked with and I know I am not, by far, the only one!

Um HELLO! People died there..shootings, drugs...um NO WAY!!! I looked at the place and I'm glad I saw this site b/c I would never live anywhere like that! And it is not ok for people to break into your home or car. That is not safe. I would never think oh well if someone broke into my home! That's insane!

People break into cars everywhere,,, makes no difference where you live. The shootings you refer to were drug related,, so dont do drugs and ya prolly have nothing to worry about. People are responsible for their own safety,, but of course, this is the United States of Blamers,,,, where no one is responsible for anything,, its always someone elses fault. Wake up

I am moving in to IRA in the next few days and I would like to say that the staff has been the most amazing in the few times I have encountered them. I am a firm believer if you are a responsible adult, pay your bills and respect the fact that you have neighbors then you shouldnt have an issue. The prior "complaints" I have read appear to be from that of disgruntled tenants who were not able to abide by the simple rules of adulthood. So in a few short words, GROW UP! Regarding the crime-statistically, independence has a higher crime rate, however the population contributes to these stats. I have lived in some of the more elite areas downtown and still had issues with crime, they just don't get reported as often due to bad publicity. I feel a lot more comfortable being fully educated of the potential crime in an area than to go in blind with an expectation only to find that it was just like anywhere else. Someone once told me "locks are only intended to keep honest people out." So guess what folks, welcome to the real world.
I look forward to living at IRA and feel completely safe and secure. I also have taken other precautions to ensure my safety, as I am the only person whom is truly responsible.
