One of Joplin's better complexes

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009
I moved to these apartments from a 1200 sq.ft. downtown loft, w/parking garage. For me it's a downgrade moving from an amazing loft to an apartment, but it had to be done. I looked at several complexes and duplexes in Joplin, and these apartments, I beleive, are the best. I have a one-bedroom and it's surprisingly spacious. My living room and bedroom are large, and my bathroom is twice the size of normal apartment bathrooms. I have noticed the livingrooms seem to be large in only the 1-bedroom units. I have friends who live in a 2-bedroom unit and their livingroom isn't nearly as big. I guess the extra bedroom takes up space.
The kitchen has a large pantry, lots of cabinets, glass-top stove, dishwasher, microwave and the frige has an ice-maker. The appliences are all up-to-date. I'd call the kitchen perfect if it weren't for the fact that the color-scheme is way too light and boring. I like dark bold colors, but the appliences are white, the cabinets are so light they're almost white, and the walls are white. But if you're into light colors, I guess you'd like it.
I don't really know the manager, in the two years I've lived here, I've only talked to her once. The assistant manager seems to runs everything and she is the sweetest person I've ever met. Any problems you have, they're fixed right away. So far the only problem I've had was the smoke detectors. When the battieries start to die, the detectors make this horrible beeping sound. One night, around 3am both my detectors started beeping. I couldn't reach the ceiling to pull them off so I ended up busting them to pieces, because I had to beat them down with a broom handle. The next morning I went to work, called the assistant manager and told her what I'd done. She said, not to worry about it, and when I got home everything was fixed.
The outside of the buildings are always clean and well maintained, with nice flower-beds and regular mowings. Maintainece people are always around, as well as a couple of security guards that walk around the complex.
Another thing I really like is the quarterly pest control, and they give you a schedule showing the dates the exterminator will be there. This is a big thing for me, because I have a huge issue with spiders. So far I haven't seen one yet(knock on wood).
There is a big tenent building with a laundry room, weight-room, media room, movie theater, and a banquite room. We can use the banquite room for baby-showers and other parties. You just have to reserve it for the day you want. The movie theater is the same, you just bring your own DVD. I have a washer/dryer in my unit so I'm not sure what the laundry room is like. The media room has four computers with internet, a color copier and a fax that's free for the tenents. I have a computer in my apartment so I never use this room. The weightroom is very nice and clean, and the pool & jacuzzi area is very cool. The pool has pretty fountains that spray water, there are a couple of gas grills, a nice shaded area, patio furniture, and a wet-bar (bring your own drinks). There's actually water fountians everywhere. The biggest one is at the front of the complex; it's in the middle of a pond and sprays water straight up in the air. Grills and patio furnature are also spread out in different locations of the complex. There's also a tennis court, basketball court, and sand volleyball court.
My only complaint with this place is the parking. You'd think high-rent apartments (and the rent raised $20 this January) would have covered parking, but they don't. Even worse, there's not enough parking spaces. My building has 12-units: six 1-bedrooms & six 2-bedrooms. That's about 18 people in the building. I'm not sure how many people have cars, but there are only 9 parking spots and one handicap spot. I'm not even mentioning visitors's cars. If I'm not home by 6pm, there's no way I'll end up parking by my building; I end up a couple of buildings away. It's like going to Walmart; I drive around until I find an open space. Imagine how much this sucks when it's icey & snowy.
That's it for my review. Aside from the parking, the Plaza apartments are pretty much the best in Joplin.
