Ah the Bellerive. A historical and architectural asset on the National Register of Historic Places, located confidently in mid-town, minutes from downtown, the plaza, and all major interstates, close to public transportation routes, Amtrak, and some shopping within walking distance. Perfect for young single professionals working downtown, retired folk, and young couples. Yes, mid-town is ?gritty?, but its reputation is worse than it?s reality. (Sorry Johnson Contains, there are in fact people who don?t drive brand new cars, and there are even people who aren?t white. Gasp.)

What a shame it is that the new management has successfully ruined a decent place to live in mid-town. My understanding is that prior to the current owner some lawyer guy bought up the block because he wanted to save Kansas City architecture and be apart of the rebuilding of urban neighbor hoods in KC. For what ever reason he wasn?t successful and sold the properties off to some company in California. This company in turn hired some jackass from Belton to be the property manager. According to the Pitch this guy already has complaints filed against him from other properties.

Once this guy took over he basically fired the entire staff. Of course in the land lord-tenant meetings (which we no longer have) they promised that the building was going to go through renovations, a new gym would be added, the other buildings next door were also slated for renovation. With no staff except for his mother running the office and a couple of mentally challenged guys occasionally taking out the trash, and no active renovations, virtually all cleaning and maintenance has ceased.

They?ll lie straight to your face about ?having security?. There is no security patrol, the cameras are non-functional, and they have allowed quite a few new shady folks to move into the place. Some classy individual has broken into the vending machine to steal all the candy bars so many times that the vending company has had to put bars, chicken wire, and plexi-glass over it. I?m a real big fan of paying extra for a ?secure lot? which is open most of the time.

I wish I had the money my self to buy the block and renovate the buildings and do it the right way. The people running the place are third rate slum lords who no nothing about property management. They need to get into a new business. Just down the street the old Ellison building has been bought up, along with several others on that block, and has begun complete renovations, by a REAL REAL-ESTATE/PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY. I plan on looking into moving down the block.

I?m very tolerant, and I understand a building that is nearly eighty years old isn?t going to be perfect, but that doesn?t mean it has to be a falling-apart piece of ----, just because the people that own and run the joint are to lazy, stupid, and crooked to run a business.

To their credit there have been a number of architects and contractors milling around the block, which hopefully means that this summer the people that run the place plan to get their ass in gear and get to work. But I ain?t holdn? my breath.
