Hated The Management

Years at this apartment: 1996 - 2005

My wife and I lived here from 1996 to 2005 so we have a good foundation of the things that go on here. Listed below are just a few of the run ins we had with Karen during our 9 year stay.

When we first toured the place we were told specifically that every apartment had their own washer/dryer. I even asked the red headed girl point blank if I had heard that right, and she said yes, every apt had their own washer/dryer. Of course, the model apt we saw didn't have one, but we were assured ours would.

When we moved in we found there wasn't a washer/dryer in each apartment; each building entrance had 6 apartments and it was the entrance that had the washer/dryer, not the individual apartments. So 6 apartments shared a washer. Later on we moved to a different place within the complex and 19 apartments shared a washer/dryer.

We used to get a lot of phone calls in the evenings from a carpet cleaning company asking if we wanted, not needed, but wanted to have our carpet cleaned and of course we'd always say no. Well, I got a job working nights so I had to sleep during the day. One day while I was in bed I heard the front door open up and keys rattling around and I naturally thought it was my wife, but when I heard the keys in front of the bedroom door I opened my eyes and there was a guy in a uniform standing there looking at me. I yelled at him and he said he was from a carpet cleaning company, and I screamed at him to get the %&@! out of my apartment! Then another guy who I didn't know was there asked from the front room if they could come back.

After they left I called Karen and told her what happened and she said that we, my wife and I, had probably asked these guys to come over. I told her that wasn't true and if it was, how the hell did they get a key to our apartment. She yelled, screamed into the phone, that she didn't know how they got the key and my wife had probably asked them to come over. Then she hung up on me. I called back but she didn't answer. No one did.

Another time, Direct TV had came over to sell satellite dishes but the apartment rule was you could have a dish but there could not be any wires running from the dish into your apartment. How can you watch satellite TV if wires aren't allowed' (This rule has since been lifted) Anyway, after we paid for it, the satellite guys came out and using a crane, mounted the dish on top of the apartment building. A few years later when we were getting ready to move I said we needed to get the dish down and Karen said the dish belonged to the complex, not us. I told her I had a receipt indicating that it was indeed mine and she said in that case I could hire someone to take it down, but she would have to approve it since she didn't want just anyone walking on the roof. Then again she hung up on me. End of discussion.

The last one I'm going to tell is when we moved out. We took about 3 days to make sure the apartment was spotless. Both my wife and I smoked so there were stains on the walls so we took lots of cleaners and scrubbed the walls, making sure they were as white as we could make them. I thought we did a great job. We also filled every hole from the pictures and paintings, and sanding down every patch job until you couldn't tell where the holes were. We did such a good job on the wall cleaning that the white spackling blended in perfectly with the color of the walls. We had cleaned the walls that well!

We had even bought a brand new sweeper for the carpets. Our old one was not bad but it was time for a new one. We swept, mopped, and cleaned every surface throughly. At the walkthrough we were told everything looked fine and our deposit would be mailed to us since the girl didn't have the ability to write checks. Only Karen could. My wife and I were satisfied with the answer, and hopped in our cars and drove to our new home in Ft. Lauderdale. We got a letter from Briar Hill a couple of weeks later stating the walk through showed our apartment was a complete mess and they would keep our deposit. The letter said there was gray hair on the carpet, but neither my wife nor I had gray hair.

We didn't fight the $700 deposit or whatever it was. It wasn't worth it. We were happy to get away.

There were many, many "you gotta be kidding me" incidents over the years during our stay there. Would I recommend Briar Hill' No, simply due to Karen. She was unprofessional, lazy, and rude. People never change so if that's the way she was then, it's safe to say she is like that now.

There was one older maintenance guy who was never really nice, but I didn't care if they're nice or not. They fixed things fine and would sometimes work around your schedule to fix stuff. Can't ask for more than that from a maintenance guy.

I cannot stress enough how much of a rude, inconsiderate, paranoid, and plain ol' mean person Karen is.
