Alright, a little pricey.

I've enjoyed my time here. It is pretty quiet (the walls are concrete) and the people are friendly. The maintenance crew is very friendly, fairily knowledgeable and timely. The apartment itself is obviously from the 1950's - and some of the appliances such as the stove and range - are that old too but they work very well. Before you move in they do a once-over with paint and new carpet if it needs it. Parking is gated, you have a laundry room downstairs (with recently replaced washers and driers) a workout room with various equipment, two small pools and they deliver packages to your room.
My complaints:
A $300 dollar pet deposit (only 1/2 is refundable) and $15 a month pet rent is a little pricey for one cat.
Laundry was recently jacked up to $1.50 for each wash and $1.50 for each dry. The driers don't do the best job so some loads take two rounds.
The windows are crap - if you live on the street side you can hear drunk people walking up the street from Tomfooleries because people park on Jefferson and 46th streets constantly to go to the Plaza. And they are definitely NOT airtight.
No central heating but central AC. You get two radiators but if it is barely warm enough outside, it gets turned off.
My boyfriend's side view mirror got ripped off because he parked on the street - again, drunkies. You definitely need to get a parking spot. Which is a little pricey as well.
You are definitely paying for location.
Don't plan on hanging much on your walls. Since they are concrete, good luck drilling or nailing. I've done everything with those strips but it doesn't always work because the wall isn't always flat.
Gnats. In winter. I have no idea where they come from.
The billing situation is f-ed up. You have an ISTA that takes care of gas, water and some electricity. This is calculated by taking the whole building's usage and dividing it up evenly. Then you have your individual electricity bill from KCPL. Then you have Time Warner.
No recycling.
All in all, this is a fairly nice apartment, all things considered, but I'm paying too much to live here ($710 for 1 bed 1 bath 630 sq.ft and a discounted parking spot). I would rather pay some extra gas and get something like this apartment a mile away and get free utilities (or at least control ALL my utilities) and free covered parking and cheaper deposits. Perhaps cheaper laundry too! I'll be moving out in June.
p.s. They've jacked up the price of my apartment. I'm locked in, but the next resident will be paying $820 for my place where I was paying $675.
