Illegal Drug Use at Fountainview

Beware future residents: My experience at Fountainview on the Plaza has been disappointing and downright frustrating to say the least. I was very excited when I moved here seven months ago...the location is great, the apartments are lovely, and the grounds were beautifully kept. I thought it was going to be a step up from my former apartment complex where both my apartment and car got vandalized. I soon realized that appearances are not what they seem here at Fountainview. From the very beginning I had trouble. First of all while living in Indiana over the summer I attempted to contact the front office about mailing me the lease so I could sign it before I was set to move in on July 10. For nearly two weeks both my mother and I called the office during normal business hours periodically throughout the day and no one picked up the phone. When I finally did reach someone they knew nothing about my lease. When my roomate and I got here to sign the lease the office had to redraw up the whole lease because they didn't know there were going to be two of us living in the apartment (although we had both met with this particular leasing agent at least three times previously). Fast forward a couple months, for the first two months the security gates didn't work. Everytime I go into the office to get a package I feel as though I am inconveninecing someone, although it is their job to retrieve packages for tenants. I know for a fact the office staff screens calls that they don't want to answer because they have done it right in front of me and have done it to me. However annoying these incidents were, I was able to ignore them as part of the incompetency of the front office staff (which is well known and discussed among residents here). My most recent experience has truly tarnished my opinion of Fountainview as a professionally run business. About a month and a half ago the complex rented out apartments to the entire Kansas City Brigade Football Team. Two members of this team happened to be placed in the apartment across the hall from me. For the first week of their residence every time my roomate and I and our neighbor returned home we smelled marijuana in the hallway. Sometimes the marijuana smell was so strong it actually looked like a smoky bar in our hallway and several times I could smell it in my bedroom. My roomate kindly asked the tenants to keep the smell out of the hallway and they laughed at her. Next I went into the office and explained the situation. I was told it would be taken care of immediately. In the lease it specifies that "possessing a controlled substance or drug paraphernalia" is prohibited conduct as is violating the law or "behaving in a loud or obnoxious manner." The front office said they would talk to the tenants. To make a long story short we counted a total of 15 times when the marijuana smell was so pungent that it stunk up the hall. Eight times I went to the office to complain. MY neighbor and roomate went several times as well. Five times we called security. At least one of those times the security guard spoke to us and told us he confirmed that the smell was indeed marijuana. Not only were these tenants disrespectful of the common air we all breathe in the hallway they would play loud music at all hours, people were constantly coming and going from the apartment, and they were completely noncompliant with the assigned parking rules. When we called security on them they shouted obsenities at us in the hallway, making me fearful of leaving my apartment alone(both my roomate and I are female). My roomate and I are both in medical school, have busy hours, and ALWAYS have to study. Every day is stressful and this was obviously not a conducive environment for us to study at our home or get to sleep early. The reason I warn future residents is that despite having a specific clause in the lease forbidding illegal drug use, the office at fountainveiew has in my opinion condoned it by not doing anything about it.They have not evicted the tenants, they in fact tell US that what we are smelling is incense. That is a joke since I am pretty sure any person can tell what marijuana covered up by incense smells like. In fact just today I was in the office only to find the tenant in question laughing and joking around with the office staff, as if they were life long friends, thus making me suspect that our complaints were being ignored because the office staff "likes" these team members. When I commented on this one of the agents called me a derogatory name and accused me of having a poor attitude, further frustrating me.This matter has been handled completely wrong and inappropriately by the management and staff here. By catering to the needs of the entire football team it doesn't seem to matter what we say or if we are bothered, and we are the innocent party here. If you happen to be in professional school, or work early hours, or have small children I would not move here and be exposed to illegal drug use and disrespectful neighbors and an office staff many of whom don't seem to care and aren't professional or accommodating. Although the property manager has tried to be helpful and has been very pleasant to us, it just hasn't solved the problem. Save yourself the headache of having to deal with this kind of stuff when you have more important things to be doing. Although this is just my experience, it speaks volumes about the kind of business they are running here and how truly unconcerned the staff is for your comfort or safety.I thought this place was classy and it turns out to be anything but.

Wow! One week and still no droplet here from FV staff. Sounds like they check all other reviews at a whim, but they don't have much response to buddying up with the druggies.

Have you called the police? From what you say this is illegal activity. Would you like the Fountain View staff to pursue crime throughout the Kansas City area as well? If staff say they do not recognize the odor of marijuana and the security patrol (which are mostly previously employed as police officers) do not recognize the odor of marijuana they cannot legally do a thing. This may be a personal attack on said person. For some reason you may not like this person. My point being is you cannot remove someone from an apartment on what others say. You can only do so based on fact and documented situations. Not on complaints that have no backing. My recommendation: 1. Call the police. 2. Speak to a detective. 3. Inform them of your concerns. 4. Offer your apartment as a staging area for evidence gathering. 5. Sit back and watch the progress. I do not feel it was right of you to point the affiliation with the Brigade. Even if this person is doing what you say they are doing, I'm sure the remaining team members can't all be guilty of the same.
