So we moved from FL and coming from where we did, this place was heaven at first simply because it wasn't FL. We had previously lived across the street in the Finance Building in 2004 and absolutely LOVED, LOVED, LOVED where we lived, which was why we decided to move back to Library Lofts. We were told when we signed the lease that they do not allow dogs but if we were to sneak one into the complex, not to say anything and it would be alright. The first night we moved in, needless to say we were extremely exhausted because we had just completed a 1300 mile move and started new jobs, the fire alarm was pulled at 3 am. We had to run down stair after stair after stair to spend an hour and a half on the sidewalk before we could go back to our apartment. When we got down to the sidewalk it was like a college party at a dog park between everyone drinking and everyone that had dogs. By time we got back upstairs, we had to rush to get ready for work so needless to say that wasn't the best way to start off our living experience at Library Lofts. Then there was the parking, it sucked. People would ram the wooden arms in the parking garage constantly because they were too cheap to pay for parking so it made me wonder why I should have to pay when others won't. They used to have a gate that opened and closed between each car but they for some reason stopped that so I never felt safe the second time around. Our neighbor had a Weimaraner and not long after we moved in we figured out how paper thin the walls were when she locked the dog in the bathroom when she left and it howled nonstop until she came home. Who wants to listen to that at 7am on Saturday' We would also hear her come home from the bar in the middle of the night and she would either fight with someone or she had a wild sex life because it was constant noise and yelling. I had to sleep with ear plugs just to not hear her or any of the other noise. Our apartment faced John's so we could hear the pathetic drunks trying to sing in the middle of the night. They also began construction on another building next door to John's and at 11pm we could hear the echo of the sandblasting which also kept us up. Some odd alarm would go off for hours on end, but only at night and if we weren't listening to the sandblasting, the dog, or the girl, we were listening to the alarm. The apartment itself was great, with the exception of THOR, which was the washer/dryer "european style" combo that was built into the kitchen...this little sucker took 4 hours to do one load of laundry and at most was a pair of pants and a top...worthless. There were laundry rooms on all the floors but they were full of other people's disgusting clothes that were covered in all sorts of animal hair, ink, gum, candy...nasty crap that ruins clothes. All of that we were willing to live with for the remaining 8 months of our lease until the storage units started being broken into and we were robbed of about $800 worth of things. You would think that your belongings are safe in a locked basement with double locks on the storage door until you find out that some druggie bum and his girlfriend were living in the basement with the storage lockers. They actually cut through the door on our storage locker to get to our belongings and walked out of there with a men's bike and a 27" TV and nobody said anything about it. When we were robbed they knew who it was, they knew who they were looking for and had figured out how they were doing it. They had cameras yet, they were still coming and going freely with peoples things. I got in the elevator one morning (the elevators are a story of their own) and found a notice saying these people have keys to the building and are now breaking into apartments through the adjacent water heater storage closets and to be careful when coming home alone. Being the one home first, this scared me so I tried to address the issue with the leasing office who blatantly lied to my face and said none of that was true and then denied that anything was put in any elevator. I obviously knew she was lying because I had the notice from the leasing office and because she just really sucked at lying. When we were told that management would not be changing any of the locks, I demanded to be let out of my lease without penalty because I did not feel safe, which of course they agreed to (thanks be to God) and we were out of there in less than a month. Now the elevators, those were filthy and disgusting between the smoke, the vomit, and the dog piss. What you read about the 6th floor always being gross...that's no lie. I would take one big breath before heading down the hallway of the 6th floor and I would run with my face buried in my clothes. People would infact allow their animals to use the bathroom freely in the halls and leave it for others. People would infact vomit in the halls and I would agree that it was like a college dorm. The experience really depends on the person. I was younger and more of a partier the first time I lived there, a bit more mature and responsible the second time. I would not recommend living there to anyone unless you can afford to party all the time and not get any sleep and of course if you don't mind funky smells and nasty bodily fluids. Oh, and if you drive a junker car and don't care if it gets broken into or hit.

AGREED!! I had the same problems, but stuck it out for two years! You were lucky to get out of your lease without penalties. They charged me an extra hundred dollars for stains that were already on the floor when I moved in!
