I have lived here since March of '08 and have had nothing but problems with maintaining my apartment. I have had maintenance on my 40 year old furnace once, sometimes twice a month, my thermostat says it's 80 in here, yet it feels like 60. They promised me the entire complex would have new siding by '09, here it is, February '09 and half the complex still looks like the projects. They haven't replaced the windows since it was built in 1967 and they are so inefficient, It would be equally cost effective to not have ANY windows.
The maintenance staff is new every time the come, they cannot keep the same people and half of them that come into my home look like ex-convicts.
On top of that, the price when I went to sign the lease was $100 more a month than what it said on the websites and everyone else I talked to with my size apartment are paying $75-125/mo less than I am. When I brought this up to them, they said I agreed to a lease and that was fair market value for the day I signed it. Then they had the nerve to leave a note on my door informing me my lease would expire in March and I could renew it for an additional $34/mo!!!
Parking is horrible, half of the spaces are overpriced "covered" parking spaces that provide no protection to the elements because the roof is 18' off the ground so snow, sun, rain, sleet and hail will pummel your car the same if it wasn't covered.
They also claim to be a "drug free" community and do background checks on all tenants but when I was pulled over for having 1 headlight out (Yes, this area is HEAVILY patrolled by the KCPD) the officer informed me this complex along with the neighboring one produces half of the drug-related arrests in the 64118 zip code.
The $3/load Washer and Dryer provided is in a freezing cold un-insulated laundry room which they've been planning on renovating for the last 6 years, taking away what little storage area that is provided.
There are MUCH better deals out there on newer, friendlier, less expensive complexes. KEEP SEARCHING and only land here as an absolute last resort!

I used to live there years ago & I have heard that they are having trouble keeping staff. I did have problems here & there, but never noticed an excessive amount of police or drug activity (at least, not at Regency North, but across the street). The whole time we lived there (about 2 & 1/2 years), we had the same maintenance guy & the same complex manager, both of which were very friendly & accommodating. Although sometimes it took the maintenance guy forever to help us because I swear he was the only one working the entire complex. They are probably having trouble keeping staff that know what they are doing, therefore the people who live in their complex are having to suffer due to ignorant employees. North Kansas City & surrounding areas used to be really nice. Only in the last couple of years have I noticed a rise in crime & drugs around here. I'm sorry you have to put up with that! I totally agree that those apartments need renovation. However, the thermometer thing is a simple fix. If it says it is 80 but feels like 60, the problem could be that the thing isn't calibrated correctly. That has happened to us before & my roommate fixed it in seconds. Just a simple adjustment to your thermometer. By the way, how much ARE you paying? We paid $500-$600/mo. I recommend Colony Court Apartments, which is right by Worlds of Fun. Not to expensive, huge apartments with a two porches & front door to the outside. They also lack the horrible paint job that the Regency North apartments have. Not to mention the light fixtures & fireplace aren't ridiculously old & out-dated. The staff doesn't bother you too much & we have only had one problem (air conditioner not working last summer). Unfortunately though, just like at Regency, the apartment complex across the street is pretty high drug/police activity. I never see anything or feel afraid to live here, but I do hear sirens going to the complex across the street all the time. They are subsidized though, that's why. But there's always tons of kids around here, outside playing, so it can't be TOO bad. Also, Harrah's pays for extra police to patrol north of the river, which would explain the insane amount of cops in this particular area, whether there's a lot of crime or not. Hope I helped! Good luck!
