Live in the River Market. There's a lot going on, great places to eat, and friendly to walk around in.
DO NOT rent from DE Lofts, or probably even purchase if you're looking to buy. I don't know that I would say management is inept, when they feel like trying they do things effectively.
Next, regarding the units themselves.
I liked our unit. It was really nice having one large living area to arrange furniture and decorate as we saw fit. The vaulted ceilings make the places seem more spacious, and the brick has a lot of character. Appliances are antiquated. Requests for maintenance were handled with disdain, and often went unresolved.
The walls, as mentioned in other reviews, are thin to the point you can hear your neighbors various activiites. This was a little annoying, but seemed especially odd at times. For instance, when the fire alarm goes off three times in the same week in the dead of winter we could barely hear it through the walls and doors. How odd. I can hear my upstairs neigbor working on his bike, and can tell you what songs he listens to most frequently, but I have to leave the bedroom door open to hear this thing which is supposed to save my life. I'm not a light sleeper. Traffic passing by wakes me up. Fire alarm' Nada. It's kind of a big deal. We brought this up to management, and their response is that they've had people tell them to turn it down because it's TOO loud. Isn't that the point' I understand that people get frustrated with false alarms. Everyone does. But if I can't hear it, it's useless. Regardless of the alarms validiy, fire alarm = I'm going outside and waiting for the firecrew. Fix the building so the roof stops leaking and creating false alarms when the water hits the alarm triggers, then people will pay attention when it goes off.
Horrible experience. DE Lofts is the plague of urban housing.
