If you can afford it, there is no downside to living here. The managing/leasing staff likes to boast that their residents are doctors and lawyers and the sort but as long as you can pay the rent they are very accomodating no matter what your profession or line of work may be. The average age of the residents here seems to be about 60 but there are a handful of young 20 to 30-something professionals as well. The doormen are very friendly but not necessarily big, strong, bouncer- types that make you feel safe; however, they are required to buzz-in any guest or visitor (pizza boy, etc) into the building lobby and be announced by the doorman and accepted by the resident before proceeding to the elevator to come up to visit you. The complex is located just on the edge of "downtown" so the idea of a doorman does provide a sense of security. There is a small gym with a couple of each of stationary bikes, nice treadmills, and stairmasters; as well as a decent universal weight machine; no free weights; and a slightly outdated TV- all suitable for the mild to slightly moderate fitness conscious resident (I have a membership at a local university health club, but the Santa Fe Place gym was a nice alternative when the weather seemed like a good enough excuse to not leave home or when I was in a crunch for time). There is an underground gated parking garage with assigned parking, with a small unsecured but still "safe" covered visitor lot. The "garden" in the inner- facing courtyard is very well- kept and may be a part of the reason that rent is so high, but it is a nice sight in the midst of some of the eyesores in this part of town. For Kansas City, unlike one of the larger/hipper cities around like Chicago or Manhattan, the amenities of this apartment complex are somewhat of a rarity. There may be one or two apartments in the area that may be comparable as far as the "luxury living" claimed by the price range, but this complex, I promise, has more features overall than any other within at least a 25- mile radius. The only 2 negative points I could mention: 1) the live-in manager, though she does try her best to be accommodating, can at times seem like she is on a power-trip- but she has been there for nearly 20 years (I think) and so I guess she has that right; 2) the building cant be too old, but there seems to be a musty odor in certain parts of the building and the airducts may have a mild (but not health-affecting) mildew problem.
