Cool lofts, sh!tty management...

I lived here for a year...and the place seemed pretty cool. Right in the heart of downtown KC. My wife (then fiance) and I were excited to live in a loft. We were able to get a corner unit on the fourth floor. Everything was w/in walking distance...cool bars, restaurants, etc. But I would not recommend anyone to live there. The management was horrible. The maintenance was horrible. Shortly after we moved in, the first big thunderstorm moved through, and we discovered that it rained in our apartment b/c the seal on the window was non-existant. I called to have maintenance fix it... A week later he shows up...and examines the window. Tells me that he has his "window repair kit" downstairs and left to retrieve it. I figured he'd be right back. Four hours later, he shows back up and tells me that he was called away to another SoHo property to "make keys". He promised he'd return the following week to repair our window. That week came and went, and no maintenance. Another week came and went...still no maintenance. I called several times and was told they would send him up as soon as possible. Finally after 3 months of living there, the maintenance guy came to repair the windows... I thought all was good at this point...until the winter came. We took pics of the snow that built up on our window sill (inside the apartment) to show the management. It really was snowing in our apartment... They sent up the same maintenance guy again and he tried to reseal the window.

The building had two elevators. One of them broke down shortly after we moved in. The second elevator was iffy...and broke constantly. I was thankful we only had a few flights to climb, but it was very annoying when you had stuff to luge up 4 flights of stairs. I felt bad about those who lived on the 7th floor.

I was constantly given the brush off by management. The parking was crap... You were given two hang tags to park in the designated lot...but they never enforced the parking. Many times I had to park on the street b/c tenants had "unauthorized" visitors taking up the spots. Parking on the street wouldn't have been a problem, but it was metered from 7am-6pm. I worked nights, so when I came home and all the parking spots were taking, I had park on the street, then wake up at 7am to move my car. I got a ticket b/c I was a few minutes late and parked at a meter.

The building was cool...was originally a warehouse built at the turn of the 20th century, but they did not insulate them well when they converted to apartments. You could hear everything around you...the neighbors up & downstairs and beside you. They had a security firm "patrol" the building...but all this amounted to was a guy who would sit in the parking lot asleep in the "patrol" car. When we had legitimate complaints about noise at 3 AM, they wouldn't do anything about it. The management didn't act too concerned either.

I don't know if they have the same management now or not, but I would hope that they've made some changes. No one who worked there seemed to give a crap about the tenants.
