The Ethans

I lived in the Ethans for only 6 months...Thank goodness it wasn't any longer than that...When I first looked at the apts..they seemed really nice, the staff was of course wonderful! Guaranteed it was a great place to live...At the time, I was moving from out of state, and didn't have a job yet...so I had to have a co-signer...they said it was no problem...they sent the paperwork off to my co-signer..on this paper work, they had me in for a year lease, when I specifically told them it was only for 6 months...on the lease they had it down for a year...so my co-signer scratched out the year lease, and put that it was for 6 months..I called them and told them, they said that was fine, they would change it once it came back to them...my co-signer had mailed it back right away and about a week and a half later, 3 days before my move in date, I called to see if I could move in a day early..they said it was no problem, but then she got my paperwork, and said that since my co-signer "wrote and scribbled" all over the lease, that they had to write another one up and that I couldn't move in until they got it back..but that it couldn't be faxed..had to be mailed....this was on a friday...and of course, so after arguing with her, she sent it overnight....and by the time they got everything straight it ended up being 5 days after my inital move in date...So then they give you this sheet to fill out about the things wrong with your apartment...Filled it out...it wasn't anything to extreme...some plug in's didn't work, etc...they never got fixed..even after calling numerous times about them...Every month I would put my rent check in their drop off box, and never once did I get a letter or phone call saying they didn't get it...UNTIL...I wrote a letter saying that I wasn't going to be renewing my lease...wrote it 2 months before my lease was up and put it in the drop box...a day later, I called and left a message on their answering machine asking them to call me to make sure they got my notice.. and never got a return phone call back...called a couple more times..nothing...so the last month comes around...(I paid my first and last month up front when I initally got the apartment)...so the last month I didn't send a check for rent...then I get this nasty letter in the mail saying there was a problem with my rent...so I called, and they said ya you haven't paid your rent...went thru the whole thing about how I paid it when I initally moved in, and I already gave them my notice to vacate...well then all of a sudden, they couldn't find the notice...no one knew anything about it...so then they wanted to charge me a $100 on top of wanting another months rent...I threw a fit, and finally after talking to 3 people, they agreed if I would write them another notice to vacate that they would drop the $100 charge, and just charge me for 10 days rent...So I wrote them another notice, and in it, asking for their corporate number, and letting them know I was going to be contacting better business bureau...and when I called to make sure they got that notice, the lady on the phone, literally laughed at me when she gave me her corporate number...My main problem with this apartment was the staff...they were completely rude, and had no respect for their tenants...it was really ridculous...I have lived in more ghetto apartments in KC and never had any trouble like I did with these people...And after reading some other complaints...I have to totally agree...the dumpster area...nasty...I would leave for school at 6am...and go outside, and raccoons all over the trash...people would leave ---- out like no other....and at the time i was there...there was a girl that got her apartment broke into, and she was almost raped, but happened to wake up to this guy on top of her...she fought him off called the cops, and he ran...They claim things like a great fitness center...but at the time...they had leakage problems and it was in constant maitenance for 4 months....I just have to tell others that if you are looking for a place...don't go here...they don't deserve your business...Everything looks so nice inside and out...but if you have a problem, best believe they don't care, and they are going to try and get you for every dime they can...Please start a trend and go elsewhere...You'll be much happier!! I know I would have!
