Horrible Experience

I want to caution anyone thinking about moving into these apartments. I moved out last September, and I am still stinging from the experience. The office staff was extremely disorganized. First, my roommate and I were supposed to both be on the lease, and because the agent wanted to make a buck, he did not put her on the lease due to bad credit. When I asked at the office while signing the paperwork, I was assured that she was on the lease as a secondary tenent with the same obligations as the lease holder. When she decided to move out, she was able to leave with no penalties, because she wasn't even on the lease. At all. This left me stuck with a lease and the payments. I will say they did let me move into a smaller apartment, but I had to sign a new 12 month contract and I got the second apartment at the full price as opposed to the one I had been in which I had gotten on special pricing.
A few more things, my rent check was lost two times, both times the office staff demanded that I pay late fees. When my checks were found, there were no apologies. Also, the parking lot was covered in mud. They had begun to do some work on a burst water pipe, and mud and water went everywhere across the parking lot. They never finished the work, they just threw a piece of plywood over it. My water bill went up because of all the wasted water.
Finally, the very last straw. Three weeks before I moved out, the person's water heater that lived on the third floor burst, sending water everywhere. I lived on the first floor. It was a huge amount of water that flooded the second floor apartment and mine as well. This happened at around 4 o'clock in the afternoon. I work long hours, and didn't get home until 9 pm. No one ever attempted to call me, or anyone on my emergency contact list. They did come into the apartment and moved some furniture around, so it wouldn't get wet. When I came into the apartment, I came into yellow water dripping from the ceiling, all over the kitchen counters, soaking the bathroom, all of the carpet, and laundry room. Large pieces of the plaster on the ceiling were falling down. There was no note, no message on my machine explaining what happened, nothing. There was such a mess, I could not stay in the apartment that night. I called and left a message at the emergency numbers and didn't get a call back until the next day. They felt that the maintenance people had followed procedure, but the told me they would take care of the problem. When I came home that night, there were 4 industrial sized fans and a dehumidifier that I was told had to stay working for one full week. This made my apartment a "wind tunnel" of sorts. The only place I could be was my bedroom because it was so lound and everthing was such a mess. I had books and many other things that were ruined because I was never called. When asked if they would replace these things, they said, "Well, that's why you get renters insurance." It was there fault that they things had been ruined because they hadn't called me. After everything had dried out, they came and did some half hearted repairs to the ceiling that looked horrible. Worst part was, the people upstairs were smokers, and when the water came through it made EVERYTHING in my apartment smell like smoke. When I moved out, there was green, scaly looking mold in the laundry room behind my washer due to there horrible water removing techniques.
I could go on, but let's just say this place was not worth the cheap rent and was a miserable experience the whole time I lived there.

Hi, don't know if you remember me but I lived on the third floor above you and completely understand how fusterating it was to come home to that situation. I also work 10 hour days and go to school at nights so coming home to unwind was what I looked forward to after a long day. And I thought it was completely unprofessional for them to come into our apartments with out us being notified for one, for two to not have the common professionalism\curtosy to call everyone and let them know what happened rather than walking into it. Don't know about you but I will personally never be living there again.

It is illegal for a landlaord to enter your apartment without notifying you with a 24 hour advance notice. In the case of an emergency, they can enter, but need to make every effort to contact you immedeiately. Everyone should have a copy of the landlord/tenant handbook, for your reference.
