This was after the gates had been broken for weeks and another apartment had been broken into. They hired a security guard but....
Early this morning, May 14, 2007, at around 4: a.m., there was an unfortunate incident at Timber Lakes Apartments. One of our residents, who was returning to his apartment, was held up at gunpoint. The resident was able to give police a description of the person. The description is an ------- American male, approximately 5 8 , slightly built, corn row style hair, and a tattoo on the neck and left shoulder. The person also had bandages on his left forearm and on his back. The person was not wearing a shirt. If you know anyone that fits this description, please call the Kansas City Missouri police department.
We take this incident very seriously. We urge each of you to be careful and be aware of your surrounds, especially late at night or early in the morning. We are offering a reward of $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest of this individual.
We have also implemented several new security measures designed to help increase safety in the apartment complex. The gate has been repaired and is now operational. Please let us know if you need the security code. We are in the process of purchasing a new video surveillance equipment (this was already ordered, and is not in response to this incident).
In the upcoming newsletter, we are also ready to announce a new program available from our security provider to provide alarm systems to each apartment (with monthly monitoring fees to be the responsibility of the resident).
Although we believe this is an isolated incident, we ask each of you to be careful and if you see anyone or any vehicle that looks suspicious, you should immediately call the Kansas City Missouri department and report such activity."
We put in a maintenance request the day we moved in. That has been over 2 MONTHS and it still hasn't even been looked at. We have stayed in contact with management and they "lost the 1st request, so we had to put it in again. They also "Lost" proof that we had paid our security deposit. No professionalism at all on the staff s part. Also, an infestation of silverfish and the noise levels are "frat party" loud, sometimes until 4am. Not a good place for people who have jobs during the day.

This is a response by an independent third party, non-resident. First, I agree that not repairing the front gate, a feature many believe sets this property above the rest, was a bad move by staff. However, there may be more to the story. Like most conflicts and many crimes, the suspect and victim often know one another, even could be living within the confines of this community. Anywhere you choose to live will have reports of vandalism and theft, even in Lee's Summit. Tip, don't go strolling down the sidewalk through southern Kansas City at 4am. If you are so concerned with noise coming from next door, don't live in an apartment. From the dorms to the office, you will hear it anywhere. "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." If you have lived in an apartment for more than one year anywhere, you should know by now if you make a request, complaint, or pay for something, have a copy and have it in writing. This way you have documented proof. If the management is truly a cause for concern, then take it up with the Better Business Bureau, or the KC Chamber of Commerce. You must have a valid complaint and have some fellow residents willing to support these claims. I have lived in an apartment, and these are common concerns anywhere. Finally, to those interested in Timberlakes at Red Bridge, read plenty of reviews, but take them with a grain of salt. In other words, everyone is entititled to an opinion, and unfortunatly the only people to speak their mind fluidly are often those who don't have one. Many of these common complaints are riddled with poor grammar, punctuation, and spelling; without knowing them, is this someone I could honestly take seriously? A tip for the ones who are directly repsonsible for the success of this community, such as the management, staff, and maintenance: listen to the residents, if this is truly a "luxury" community, then make it so. I have been personally told by currrent staff during a visit that "We spare no expenses..." Cutting corners and nickel-and-diming residents do not yield any benefits, long term or short.
