Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
I moved in May of 2008. My lofts is a /-790 sf studio (they call it a 1 BR). I pay $700/mo. It has a large bathroom with built in shelving and a separate walk in closet/ utility room with shelves and clothes hangers and room for a dresser and some storage. Kitchen is built around one corner and has a dishwasher, microwave above an electric range, refrigerator, a double sink with disposal and plenty of cabinet space. 12 foot ceilings with industrial a/c ducts, drop lights in the kitchen and track lighting in living area. Walls were painted neutral gray and white. I have one wall that is a beige colored cinder block. There is one large, crank open double window and a sliding patio door opening to a small balcony. Vertical blinds were installed. Front door and frame is steel and is very secure.Security system is installed but there is a fee for monthly monitoring. It would take a hand grenade to get in so I did not opt for the monitoring. Building is wired for Direct TV (subscription required) which you will want because TV/radio reception is really bad in this concrete and steel building.. There are WiFi transmitters on every floor for free internet (you need a computer with WiFi capabilities). Lofts on the west side above the 1st floor will have a view of downtown. East side view is a hill and Lincoln High School. Parking in the back of the building is adequate and controlled access with a magnetic card but the gates are often broken from people driving through them, still I never had a problem parking. Building entry is controlled by a key pad, no keys, just enter your code. Visitors/ deliveries can call from the keypad and you can buzz them in from your phone. There is one elevator which is slow but works. Building has large, clean laundry room on first floor, 6 each washers and driers, $1 per load. Exercise room has treadmills, stationary bikes and a weight machine. Managers office has business center with internet computer, and fax. There is a large party room on first floor you can reserve with a pool table. Residents are quiet and friendly, never had a problem. Maintenance is good, my refrigerator went out an Kevin had me a new one in 2 hours. Halls and stairwells are always clean and the grounds are well maintained. Floors are concrete so you will want some throw rugs. Windows and patio doors are framed with aluminum so they can ice up a bit in cold weather. Still, insulation is good, my loft won't go below 67 with the heat off when it is 0 outside.
Neighborhood is quiet, very little traffic on Vine Street. We are just 3 blocks from the "Jazz District" but as that is pretty much a ghost town other than the museum, there is not much going on most of the time. We have easy highway access to 71, 35 and 70 so you can get where you need to go quickly. 10 minutes to the Plaza or Power and Light. Overall, I really like it here and plan to stay.
