Lots to love and lots to hate

Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
I moved in October 2008. I had been looking at the lofts for about a year and after I sold my house (when the housing market started to crash) I decided now was the time. On the outside the place looks great, just like what u would expect for a downtown loft. Brick outside, iron baconies and lots of large window. Once you get inside a unit, it looks even better. Large windows, concrete floors, large bathroom with built in shelves, a utility room large enough to use as a closet, new whirlpool appliances, lots of pine cabinets and new verticl blinds. That's where the love affair ends.
Although the management changes constantly, right now the management is great. They have been taking great strides in getting rid of all/most of the ghetto tenents that break the vending machines, the gate arms and steal the billard equipment. There is a public gourmet coffee/hot cocoa etc machine and computer in the office. The office is truely open during business hours along with the billard room and social room. I had to file a complaint about my loud neighbor, but after two complaints she got fined and now I have no noise issues. Yes, you can still smell weed in the hallway on the weekend, but that really doesn't bother me. I have never had any issues with bugs or mice, but the sound insulation is a joke. I never have a problem with finding a parking spot, that may also be due to the fact that they have evicted lots of problem tenants. I never feel unsafe, as a matter of fact, I unknowingly left my door unlocked from 7am-6pm and nothing had been stolen from my apartment.
I have heard the stories from people that have lived there for many years and they agree that it's a much better place to leave now. I can tell that it's gotten better just in the short time period I've lived there. My dog loves the concrete floors, I would only change the fact that I live on an end apartment to an interior because in the winter my electricity bill is rediculously high from trying to keep my "concrete box" warm.
