Long Time Resident

I have lived here since 2004 and the building has definately changed, and not always for the better. There is a lot of car thefts and vandalisms. You can ask any long term resident or look at police reports. It got so bad that the management had to put up signs about how to protect your car and what to do if it was broken into or vandalised. the security company shouldn't even be called that. They only make rounds a few times an hour. If something happens between those rounds, you're on your own. There are a lot of people in and out of the building and unfortunately most people will open the door to anyone that wants in. (If you have a restraining order against someone, this building is not for you). Having a laundry room on site is good but it could use some sprucing up. The hallways are horrible. They are dark, the carpet is dirty and they echo loudly. It is near the fire and police departments which is great if you ever need them. It's not so good when you're trying to sleep and the sirens are blaring, which happens several times a night. The elevators are sssloooooow!!! If you live on the first 4 floors, save yourself and others the irritation and take the stairs. If you don't mind a tiny kitchen, the studios are great. They have lots of closet space and they are easy to keep cool/hot. I have not had any problems with the air conditioner or the heat. My air conditioner actually broke down and I had a brand new one (with a remote control) in two days. Maintainence lives on site, trash is picked up every morning between 8-9a (even on the weekends) and if you have a package delivered, they will deliver it to your apartment. The apartments do have concrete walls but you can still hear alot. I've heard some noises and conversations from neighbors on all sides that I wish I was never privvy to. People do leave transh/old furniture around the back of the building and over by the trash bin which is a pain and a sore sight to look at. There is a variety of people that live there. From 80 year olds to mentally handicap to your regular 9-to-5er's and the barely out of college types. You will hear several different languages spoken on a few occasions. I have never had my apartment broken in to but I wouldn't be flabbergasted if it did happen. The visitor parking is usually taken by people that don't want to pay for parking, so if you have guests over tell them to come early or be prepared to park on the street. (And you WILL get a parking ticket if you don't follow the parking rules. They come every morning between 7:30a-8a). I'm not crazy about the new management. They are pleasant enough but I wouldn't give them rave reviews on their customer service/politeness skills (except for Clare, the older lady. She's really sweet). Great deal for living downtown but if you have the means or if your job isn't downtown, this might not be for you.
