I'll go with the compliment sandwich. Downtown Kirkwood is a quaint aesthetically pleasing place to live. Walk to bars and restaurants. The farmers market is terrific. Centrally located so you can get around easily which is nice since I travel StL for my job.
Now the reasons I am writing. Pathetic construction. I assume buildings do not require the same type of insulation here as they do in the North. I can hear trains, planes and automobiles all day. However, if I run a fan it tends to dull the noise. The racket that you cannot escape is the people above you if you are one of the unfortunate tenants on floors 1-3. A simple trip to the kitchen by your friendly neighbor above will have your walls, tables, chairs and ear drums vibrating. I was told by management the first time that this was a downfall of apartment living. The second time I complained it was addressed (I think) but this seems to be unavoidable. So I wake up every morning at 5:15 with my neigbor; Stampy.
At first I loved the garage set-up. Secure and convenient. Then it rained. I ended up with plaster spots on the hood of my car due to a leak in the garage. Never got them fully removed. Paid to get car cleaned. Rained again. Spots again. Nice.
Next I was excited that I no longer had to deal with a cable company. You are locked in to a private company who gets their feed from the Dish Network. You'd be surprised at how little it takes for your service to be interrupted. Nice guy to deal with but worst tv experience I have ever had. More so, if you are a guy not from St. Louis, say good bye to catching out of market baseball and football (picky, I know).
Fixtures are cheap. Faucet knobs are a joke. Kitchen sink is shallow and has a tiny stem; didn't know size mattered here. Cheap appliances (not a big deal). Nice washer and dryer. NOT ENOUGH PANTRY/CABINET SPACE.
In the end. Management is great. Neighbors are standoffish but I think that is a local thing. Price is insane. Not an exaggeration. I paid $1300 for 1100 sq ft in Chicago. Here they orig. want $1700 for 1300 sq ft. This is in Kirkwood in one of the shoddiest constructed buildings I have rented in over the past 4 states and 9 years.
The worst part is I have 10 more months to go. Pray for me.
