An unprofessional, shady company to deal with.

I lived at Maryland Park Apartments for almost 4 years, with a lease that ended on 09/2007. However, when I found out that I had to undergo a craniotomy to remove a brain tumor (quite an extensive surgery and recovery), I contacted the company at the end of July to notify them that I would have to move out at the end of August instead, because I would need to be under constant care after the surgery. At first, they were very nice about it, and told me that it would be no problem due to the extreme circumstances, and that they would not charge me any additional fees to move out one month early. However, several months later I received a notice stating that I owed $175 for carpet cleaning and repainting, but that this money could not come from my initial $200 deposit because I forfeited my deposit by moving out early. This was never even discussed with me! Then they decided to turn the issue over to a collection agency, without even trying to work with me, or return any of my phone calls about this.

After trying to work with Berkshire Management and the managers at Maryland Park Apartments, I chose to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. After filing this claim and having the Better Business Bureau contact them regarding this claim, the manager at Maryland Park Apartments contacted me directly and decided that it was in their best interests to settle this with me. They decided to waive the additional fees they were trying to unfairly charge me. I requested, and now finally have, the documentation proving this. I let them keep the entire $200 deposit for routine maintenance to my apartment after moving out, which consisted of new paint & carpet cleaning. This claim has finally been settled fairly after much perseverance on my part to get it settled, as this company was not willing in the beginning to simply work with me one-on-one to solve this matter in a fair way.

Although this was the most difficult thing I have had to deal with regarding this company, it certainly was not the first. My dishwasher flooded water all over my kitchen floor four times before they finally replaced it. It took them months to replace the lights on the dark path from the parking lot to the apartments. The ceiling in my bathroom caved in from a leak in the water pipe seven times - I am not kidding, either. I had a huge hole in the bathroom ceiling, water damage to my personal items, and mold growing on the baseboards almost the entire time I lived there, as they never fixed it right. To this day, I don't even know if they ever fixed it properly.

My point in telling about my experience there is that I never want anyone else to deal with such poor maintenance service and such a rude and unprofessional office staff, like the ones at Maryland Park Apartments. In fact, I am advising everyone who reads this to not rent from a Berkshire Management community at all! I have lived in other apartments and have never had any problems even remotely close to these. Nor have I ever been treated the way I was treated at Maryland Park Apartments. If you are looking to rent an apartment, do you self a favor and cross any Berkshire Management properties off your list - especially Maryland Park Apartments. Trust me on this one - you will more than likely regret it if you take the chance and move into one of these "communities".

it is my belief that the person who sent the last comment to this add was probably under the influence of POT. Yeah thats right, we all know your secret. You need to be fired, and never put in a management place ever again, not even Mcdonalds. So why don't you go be a slut and sleep with some more people.
