A few cons, but alright....unfortunate bad ending.

My experience started off really good. The staff was very nice and professional with getting me set up. The place was very small but it was enough. Not sure if it was enough for the price, but for that area this was the going rate for rent. The place was clean and appliances seemed to be in working order, not TOO outdated. I liked that it was a smaller apartment community. But then the new apartment smell wore off and I started to notice a pattern, on average every month something had to be fixed. Which meant maintenance coming in the apt and dirtying things up (they didn't clean up afterwards until I complained to management), which often times they didn't fix it right the first time so they had to keep coming back. It seemed there was only 1 knowledgeable maintenance guy and the others were just there to tinker around. Management was timely in responding to my work order requests, but sometimes it was a pain dealing with them. There were several times they came in and fixed the wrong thing. I had a clogged bathtub for a week, the toilet had to be replaced after numerous visits, broken garbage disposal after numerous visits, and a dishwasher that always had a puddle of water at the bottom. Seemed like they were trying to avoid replacing things.
Then there was the problem with the noisy upstairs neighbors who I often thought were going to fall through the floor. I never had a problem with hearing voices, TV's or loud radios that I recall. Oh, and my bedroom windows leaked when it rained hard.
Now the unfortunate ending..I fell upon hard times towards the end of my lease. I was laid off from my job (unfortunately no severance or back up funds). There were 2 times when I had to pay after the cutoff date and management was very nice and worked with me. Before this, I paid on time ALWAYS! And I was a good tenant, no problems whatsoever. They required you to sign a promissory note and they wanted a specific date you would pay within 15 days. Now, I fully understand that they are not in the business of giving away free room and board, but when it got to the point where I needed more than 15 days, things got ugly. It was obvious I needed to move and I was aggressively working on this. My rent for May was paid in full, but in June I was unable to pay and when the 15 days came around, management went into full fledge EVICTION mode on me. After only being 15 days late with my rent. Like I said I fully understand, especially with Managed Rental Property, that they cannot be too lenient. But only 15 days! I started getting nagging letters (even though I was fully communicating with them about the situation), the Leasing Manager did a complete 180 on me and would give me cold looks when I saw her around the complex. I called Legal Aid and I was told that it was illegal for them to evict me or even harass me the way they were. The last letter (or note on the doorknob) was I had 24 hrs to move or they would "physically take possession" and demanded I turn over my keys. I was so stressed out, the pressure got so heavy I just gave up. I had to pack up all my belongings and move with family... ALL IN 24 HOURS...AND ONLY 15 DAYS LATE!!!!
If you move here, have enough money saved or some type of backup plan if fall on hard times because they will throw you out on your tail and will waste no time no matter how good of a tenant you are.
