Reading over the other reviews, I wonder where exactly these people were living. My girlfriend and I moved in not too long ago and have yet to have a bad experience. The office staff was extremely friendly and assisted us in any way possible, and we were able to see the actual apartment we eventually moved in to before our move. Although we have someone living above us, we seldom hear anything above an OCCASIONAL footstep. We moved into a two bed/two bath, and when we moved in one of the showers didn't work and one of the toilets just kept running, both of which were fixed within two days of our move.
There are a couple negatives here for some people though. The apartment was covered in spiders, they were in every corner and still pop up everywhere. When we moved in and asked about bugs, the leaser did say "well, we live next to the woods," which should be a red flag if you don't like bugs. A Wal-Mart bought spider-killing spray sprayed into each ceiling and floor corner of the apartment does the trick though.
Another definite negative would be the size of the kitchen and the condition of the cabinets. Apparently the complex was built in the 1970s and I doubt the cabinets have been replaced once. There is little storage space for things you want to store, although there is a good sized pantry for food and what nots. The appliances work just fine though, and are all within ten years old.
There is a woodburning fireplace in most every unit, which is a really nice floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace that adds a really homey touch to the apartment. The carpet (in our unit, at least) is in great shape and not stained at all.
My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to view the apartment before we moved in and before they had a chance to cover everything up, and there was a HUGE water stain on the wall in the kitchen covering about 50% of the wall. When we moved in, it was obviously painted over, but not visible anymore. We're waiting to see if it comes back.
Water pressure is good and the central A/C works rather well, the A/C units are relatively new as well.
What you read about the laundry facilities is true for the most part, but at least the complex has one.
In the two bedroom/two bathroom (without a sun deck), there is plenty of closet space, and since our apartment is on the lower level, we have a nice little deck coming off our living room (which is badly in need of a paint job, but it's nice enough and we're lucky to have a deck). Also, a perk to having a bottom unit is that you won't have another apartment touching any of your walls. There are only two apartments on our lower level, and the other one is directly across from us. If you're looking for quiet, be sure to ask for a lower level apartment.
The grounds are (so far) nicely kept and I have no complaints about any of it. There are trees everywhere and actual lawns, so it's great if you're an outdoorsy person.
Parking isn't a problem at all where I live, but I imagine it varies from building to building. When you look at a future apartment, be sure to knock on a resident's door and get their opinion. They'll be brutally honest with you.
That's about it, I think. I tried getting across the information I'd have thought pertinent before I moved in. Hope I have been able to help.
