Some good reviews and some bad - similar to my overall experience

I hope this will be a more balanced look at life here as opposed to the cultish reviews about "resort living". It's also not so bad as someone who reviewed the place and railed on every little thing saying it was the worst apartment he's ever lived in...Where did you live before' The Ritz'
Here's the scoop from a long-term tenant.
I have lived here for several years. The office staff runs hot and cold. Depends on the day you talk to them and the person you speak with as to whether they are kind and helpful or a total b*tch. In general they are helpful, but if you are pegged as a repeat complainer (even when you have something to complain about) - the attitude changes and you are never truly taken seriously. I had one particular run-in with one of the office staff who was so completely rude to me and to my husband - right to our faces in the office - that I really should have complained about it to the manager, but I don't think that she would have taken my word over her staff member. On the other hand, we have had very good service from the same staff on other days! Like I said, depends on the day and the person. So, the bottom line, I guess, is manage your image and build a rapport with the staff. If they like you - you'll probably be totally happy with your service from the office.
It is true that most, if not all, maintenance requests are taken care of immediately. No real complaints there - except when they have to use an outside vendor to fix something. They may or may not come at the time that was scheduled. Those issues are rare, however. In addition to periodic maintenance requests, I have needed two emergency maintenance needs on two separate holidays - both were taken care of THAT day within an hour or two. The maintenance staff is to be commended.
Our biggest complaint here has been various neighbors who have come and gone periodically. Good neighbors = no problems. You CAN hear neighbors when they have their TV too loud, stereo turned up or have company in their apartment. We can hear conversations when they are loud enough. Also, the breezeways where people come and go to the various front doors, carry sound like you would not believe. You can hear EVERY word said in the breezeway in your apartment, even in a moderate tone of voice. We have had multiple issues with noise that we had to address with the office and even a couple of times with the police. If you have courteous neighbors, these issues are VERY minimal and not a sustained problem. Incidentally, you would think that with as long as we have been here, the office staff would have caught on to the fact that we only really complain when there is an issue with the neighbors. Pick the people better who move in and take care of the issues right away with them and these two tenants will not be in your hair to complain! For the last several months, we have had quiet & courteous neighbors, and in turn, we've been not bothered the office! Amazing how that works. (I'm assuming they read these.) We had one particular set of tenants living in the building who made our life hell with noise and aggressive behavior. We kept complaining, but the office staff started to get more and more agitated with US! We were even "invited" to break our lease and move because we were unhappy! So, dump the tenants who have been here for years, always pay the rent and follow the rules, and keep the drunken, loud jerks who just moved in because THEY don't bother the staff...Go figure. Again, this is my biggest complaint, and if you move to Whisper Hollow, you may never experience these issues. Your neighbors have a lot to do with this experience.
The issues I have listed above are really the only major problems I have encountered. In general, Whisper Hollow is a decent place to live and I HAVE, and do, recommended it to friends and co-workers. Especially if they are laid back and wouldn't care about occasional noise. We have outgrown apartment living and I don't see us staying here much longer, but if you are looking for a reasonably priced complex in the Westport area - this is your best choice by far. If you want better in this area, you will have to pay twice the rent. I know because I have looked! We keep re-upping our lease here. So that should tell you something.
If my ratings look low, compared to others, it is because I am trying to be as honest as possible. The grounds are FINE. Nothing special, etc. Parking can be a pain if you want to park next to your door every day, but we always have a space to park in somewhere. I generally feel safe here. The building is well maintained, but let's face it - they are getting old. The important part is that most things are fixed right away. There is no washer/dryer hook up in any of the apartments, but each building has a small set of coin machines in the basement. (Neighbors affect your experience in that area too since you share them with others. That's apartment living...) Also - and this may be of no importance to you, AT&T does NOT offer U-verse here yet. We keep checking, but still no dice. There is a nice pool here. There is a fitness room, but they use too much potpourri in there. There is also nice tennis court and sand volleyball - should these things appeal to you. There is also a TV area, computer/fax access and coffee available at the office - again, should these things appeal to you. (Personally, I pay rent so I can watch TV, drink coffee and compute in the privacy of my own apartment!)
That has been our experience so far. Some good. Some bad. If that's OK with you - move on in. Just be quiet if you are moving next to me!
