Getting better

In response to the reviews of the "ghetto trash"...

Well, it's improved. Two families were evicted and A LOT of the trash that was hanging around here didn't even live here and left when the two families got evicted. The management DID hear the complaints and worked HARD to improve conditions but you can't just evict somebody because they are "ghetto." Ever hear of LAWSUITS' It took a bit of time to register the complaints and build a legal case to get them evicted.

And the management does not just allow anybody in here. I know for a fact they have turned away several people because they didn't pass screening, and because they were seen as potential problems. Sometimes bad people get in from time to time, but that's anywhere...you can't always know what somebody is going to be like based on a screening process, but you do your best to screen out the problems.

Every place is going to have problems, and I have found the problems here are minimal to other areas I know of. Not the best ever, but a good place to live over all.

My major complaint is how the utilities are handled. Gas is NOT metered per apartment, it's a blanket bill split up based on how many bedrooms you have and how many people live in your unit. Which sucks when you have people here with permanent guests in their apartments. They don't "live" here, they are just here all the freaking time. It's not the fairest system, but they aren't going to be springing the money for individual meters anytime soon, unfortunately.

Also the snow and ice removal in the winter time leaves A LOT to be desired. Last year when we had ice over a three day weekend nothing was done about it until nearly 11pm on a Sunday night and they do nothing about the ice on the sidewalks. There is apparently not enough money in the budget to do this properly, so what is done is often done by the maintenance crew 8-5. If you get ice or snow after 5 or on the weekend, forget having a safe place to drive and walk. For that I give the "grouds" two stars.

They do need to enforce towing for unauthorized parking, but I've never had a problem getting a spot to park where I live.

The apartments also keep minimal noise out from other units. I have friends who live in other apartments around the city and they complain they can hear their neighbors simply talking through the walls. Somebody has to be deliberately loud for you to hear them, and the management does respond to noise complaints.

Also, if you're a non smoker and you get a unit above or below a smoker, you may smell them as the smell travels from one apartment to the other through the vents. It's disgusting, and things could be improved if they offered smoking and non smoking units. For that I gave two stars for construction...overall it's built really well, better than most other apartments I am aware of, but if they could do something to keep cigarette smells from traveling into other units it would be five stars. qmzu4EHcaGAPVCPw2Fai
