Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
First off, to put this out in the open, there are 3 sections of West Pointe Apartments, the newer being closest to the Clubhouse, the oldest being behind 7-11 and the middle being across bennington on the other side, not even connected near the actual complex.
I lived (if you can call it living) in the middle section (about 35-40 years old i was told) right near the pool. and it was actually very nice and secluded. there were flowers planted. and it looked fairly pretty. anyways, they gave us a choice of whatever apartment we wanted and let us view them alone, which is nice. and we had selected one and moved in after rushing through the lease agreement with some daft girl with a weird name that kept talking to other tenants that walked by, several times missing that i hadn't signed one of the sheets, or my roommate.
upon moving in, it was obvious that it hadn't been cleaned like was told us. we were told it wouldn't be "ready" for 2 days. so after the 2 days, it was the same as the time we went and viewed it, the carpet hadn't been cleaned or vacuumed, everything was exactly how it was when we took the tour. (not sure why they said they needed to get "ready" for our move in)
our first night we stuck our mattress on the floor cause we had spent all day moving in but didnt have the time to put any of the furniture together. well, as we were going to bed we noticed that the neighbor upstairs was walking back and forth over a particularly decayed section of the flooring and kept making a screech worse than normal creaking. he was also speaking in a very loud voice in a tongue i assume was russian or bosnian, and after about 4 hours of this we decided to leave.
the next day i realized i had red bumps all over my body. there were fleas, and i guess from just walking on the uncleaned carpet we and all of our stuff was infested. we immediately went to the clubhouse/office to report the neighbor and the fleas, well, they told us we would have to leave our apartment for 3 days before we could come back after it was terminated of fleas. lease guidelines (by law) state they must present us with another place to live while maintenance or other are done to a unit. which they did not. i ended up sleeping on the floor at my mother's i don't recall what my roommate did. and after 3 days we got back in and it was just the same. i kept getting bites on me following. and the neighbor kept talking really loud, angry i think, for hours into the night, i think he must have the opposite schedule of us, because it was very early morning hours like 1-4 am.
we went back to the clubhouse and they said there really isn't anything to do about the neighbor cept report a noise complaint (can you report a noise complaint about the flooring''') as for the fumigating they said that is all they could do, they had it gassed (or whatever they did) and that's really all there could be done.
well that night i couldn't take anymore of the neighbor, it just wasn't humanly possible to stand another night without sleep cause some guy yelling throughout the night, while walking on a largely groaning floor.
everytime we went back to the clubhouse we spoke to the same girl that did our leasing. after awhile she started avoiding us. and i wrote a letter to gannon intl. (the company that ownes the apartments) and they never responded. well we then demanded our money back for the ridiculous living situation. because they were giving us a turnaround at every point. and we had some corporate lady actual come to the apartment so we could show her the things wrong. and yadda yadda. she said "oh that's how it's supposed to be" (seriously, she said that) anyways, the manager of the apartment complex had been on vacation the entire week we had moved in and she was there now and agreed to give us the money back and said she thinks people should be given a 30 day period where they can leave if they wish or stay. (she apparently was a new manager)
but it was really stressful, the situation i'm telling is not in depth, there were other things. like the deaf maintenance man, who didn't bring along a companion to speak for him. and he didn't know sign language either. (wtf') and the mildew growing in the bathroom in all corners where caulk was, and underneath the sink the shelf board was rotting from an old leakage, (they suggested to cover it with contact paper), then the boards groaning, the bug bites (which are still infested now) the garbage disposal blade was really rickety and loose and made cracking noises if you turned it on.
i lived in these apartments in the newer section for about... 8 years with my family, and it was just a normal apartment experience. so i compared what i was currently dealing with what i had before. and i was actually stupefied at how ridiculous they were about how "fancy" there complex was.
when i lived there it was 500 for a 2 bedroom. now it's about 700, but we got a discount this last time for 565. but that's still kinda stupid. the apartments have never been updated since they were built. so everythngi where i lived was 30-40 years old. the carpet the paint the appliances the tub, the sink crappy closet doors, etc.
i say all in all, if you're going to move into these apartments go to the newer section, they're not as cute, have less windows and other space. but you'll have less problems cause you probably won't have to talk to maintenace very often (just make sure you don't get the deaf guy who can't sign or speak).
and if you ever have a problem ask to talk to the manager, she was a middle-aged woman, and was nice enough to help out once she found out the problem, but the regular staff kinda suck and don't pay much attention. i think they forgot that college is a school not a job so they act like it's party time all day.
but if you can get a good deal on one like we did but for the better maintained area. then go for it. otherwise, look elsewhere.
