DO NOT MOVE IN TO THIS COMPLEX!!!!

I have never bothered to take the time to write an apartment review before, but considering I have just filed complaints with the MO Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau, I figure the least I can do at this point is try to warn others NOT to move in there! I won't go into total detail about everything shady that went on with the management there because it would take too long. Instead, I'll just mentioned what happened to make me file with those two consumer protection agencies. Below is the summary of the BBB report I just filed:
Lived in apt. for 2 years (paid regular and pet security deposits). Cleaned apt. extensively upon move-out and took photos. Received bill from complex dated 5/13/09 demanding $619.62 for full carpet replacement. Although there is no damage beyond ordinary wear and tear, they said they used forensic-style equipment that revealed pet stains under a blacklight. There is no mention in the bill about subtracting from the total amount for depreciation or security deposits already made. Obviously, if the only way to discover problems is through the use of forensic equipment, it should surely fall under the category of normal wear and tear, especially after 2 years of residency.
I expected to receive a full refund of my security deposits because of the excellent shape I left the apartment in when I moved out. So I was shocked to not only receive a bill, but a huge one at that. I think it is excessive and unheard of for an apartment to use forensics testing to search for damages. Also, while I lived there the apartment was infested with cockroaches for the first year, so I would not be surprised if fecal matter was in the carpeting due to the thousands of cockroaches inhabiting the area during that time. Although I would like to receive a full refund of my security deposit, I am willing to settle for deletion of the $619.62 being billed to me right now.
Anyway, the above 2 paragraphs pretty much sum up the complaint I made. I should also mention that I've lived in apartments my entire life and have never lost money on a security deposit before, much less been billed any amount on top of the deposit. I am extremely fastidious, which is more than I can say for the complex's facilities. Just to mention a couple other things about that place:
*Rude staff
*Slow to respond to maintenance requests
*Cockroach infestations
*Equipment in exercise room was often broken or stolen, and was never fixed or replaced
*Lots of petty crime and vandalism in parking lot
*Wanted to raise my rent from $609 to $665/month if I had signed up for another year
*Paper thin walls---can hear EVERYTHING neighbors do or say
*Poor landscaping in older section of complex w/ trash in parking lot
*They have an employee who continually goes around complex, looking in apartment windows to "check for pets" sitting in window---CREEPY! (I'm not kidding about this either. I got a cat, and put off telling them about it for the first 2 or 3 weeks. Then I got a notice on the door saying they knew I had a cat in the apartment. When I asked how they knew, they said they had a guy who actually does this so they can find out if there are any unauthorized pets on the premises!)

Not to mention the notice that came out a few weeks ago in regards to having BBQ grills. It doesn't say in the lease that you can't own a grill, but you can't store it on your patio. That means you either keep your grill in your apartment, find a storage unit and drag it out every time you want to use it, or you pay the fines they state they are going to charge you for keeping it there.
