Getting better, but beware...here's why...

I agree with all of the previous bad reviews; however, under the new management, things are getting better. Still, I lived here for nearly 2 years (moving out soon) and besides the property problems here are the things I found disappointing with my apartment itself, these are things that the new management can't fix....We have a 3 bedroom. 1) No linen closet. I couldn't believe it! Where was I supposed to put my towels and linens' I had to buy a shelf for pillowcases and things and the towels went under the sinks. 2) No hall closet. I had to put our vacuum cleaner in our clothes closet. Not the biggest deal, but inconvenient. 3) Considering this is a 3 bedroom, there is not a lot of kitchen cabinet space. No pantry and only 6 cabinet doors. Think about it...2 for plates, 2 for cups and mugs, and 2 for food. That's it. Not a lot. There are two small ones above the microwave and sink, but they are small. This is the amount of space for a one bed or 2, not a family of 4. 4) the shelves in the closets are the wire kind. They were sturdy enough, but I found this a very cheapy way to go. 5) The blinds in all rooms are very cheap and allow a lot of light. I had to hang my own blinds and curtains to block out the sun in our bedrooms. 6) you will be paying a water bill. I don't know if that is average in this area, I have never paid water in an apartment in my 20 years of renting apartments in 7 states, but maybe it's average here. Anyway, what you pay is up to you because you pay hot water only...but beware, it racks up quickly. We had a $80 bill once. 7) Don't let the alarm system sway you. I was very excited that we had it because of being home alone a lot, but it was way more hassle than it was worth. Overall, the construction of these apartments was done as cheaply as possible. There are areas of carpet that weren't laid correctly, the cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms were put together poorly. They also have a serious problem with roaches, mice and silverfish. We are clean, but we had to have exterminators come out quite often. If you have children, the playground doesn't offer much. A slide and some swings. I didn't let my son play in the sand because I found cigarettes and diapers in there. Gross. Plus, people are always speeding through the parking lot. The new management is nice and trying really hard to make it better, but they have their work cut-out for them. If you are in the Navy, it is a nice distance from the base, but the neighborhood is just ok. It is better than near the base, but still be careful. I would only recommend these apartments as a last resort. There are far worse in the area, but their might be much better, look around.
