A very pleasant year

I lived in a 1-BR unit for the past year, and was regularly impressed with and comfortable at Avalon Peaks. I would recommend it to anyone.

It is safe and friendly...the high levels of pet ownership ensure that many residents walk around every day chatting with their neighbors -- there is a suprising level of community.

I never had a bug, though I was on the second floor; perhaps that helped.

About Mediaworks for internet...well, yes, they DO have poor customer support. In a year, I had a half dozen times where my connection was flaky; maybe three times that I had to power everything down and unplug the cable modem to reset things. ONCE it was down for several *business hours* without notice; I called customer support, and the first rep said "well, we must be having problems; keep checking it and eventually it will just work again!" After much grouching, I got her manager on the line, who revealed that it was scheduled maintenance, but they only emailed you to warn you at the address that they give you with the account (does anyone really use those free ISP email accounts')-- they don't use any other contact email address that you may have given them in the account setup process, don't write you, don't call you, so there was effectively no notice, and I DID have to power everything down to recover from that; they were adding subnets and changed everything. During business hours. So they have shoddy support and less respect for business-hour uptime, but their general reliability was overall better than my new RoadRunner service so far, for the same price. (RR has frequent quick drops, from what I've seen.) ISPs are always frustrating to some degree.

But back to Avalon Peaks...it was bright, friendly, and the office manager Debra was very nice to deal with. She could have charged an extra month's rent when I moved out, due to my misreading the notice terms of the lease, but we talked, and in the end, I didn't have to. It is just a really nice apartment complex, no hidden strings, and while the month-to-month rent option is high at the end of a lease term, to keep on a 1-year lease was about the same price as when I moved in; no gouging there either. All in all, it is a well-maintained, pretty, safe, and fair place to live.
