AN honest review

It appears that the staff is writing quite a bit of reviews. Who really talks about updated plumbing and such in a real review' I will tell you that the apartments do have nice fixtures and what appear to be nice hardwood floors, tile, and counters. After living there for a short while you discover that looks can be deceiving. When they updated the building they cut too many corners. The windows leak, the heat and ac are very expensive and inefficient, there is very little insulation in the walls so it can be a bit noisy, and you do not have any of the amenities listing on their website.
On the plus side, they are nicer than many other apartments. The location is great, and the building is very safe. I always liked the interior hallways because it forced you to make new friends. They are very pet friendly and it does have it own little bit of charm.
All in all, I would consider living there again. I do feel they are a bit overpriced. I would recommend negotiating your rent (they will do it). Also, do not expect to get much out of the management. Frank (the owner) is afraid to face any of his tenants. I would also be cautious with your deposit as I have heard horror stories about them not being able to refund it in a timely manner and also not being able to cover their payroll durring the same time period. I would love to audit their books or see if the security deposit account really exists.

It appears that reviewers mistakenly think reviews here are written quite a bit by the staff. Yes, the heating and air are inefficient. The Kenilworth Inn Apartments is a work-in-process renovation on a huge 100 year old building. Obviously, with such a unique and unconventional conversion, there are going to be kinks. Anyone expecting meticulously clean, efficient and standardized amenities need to think about renting from a certifiably meticulously clean, efficient and standardized modern rental facility, not Kenilworth. I do agree the rental prices are a bit high, but after seeing some of the on-going renovations, I realized the staggering amount of capital re-investment that is going into this property. I stand behind the review I wrote here previously. I am not associated in any way with 'the staff'. - Sean J. McAusland, Asheville, NC.

Who of the five Kenilworth staff do you think is writing reviews? I can assure you none of the Kenilworth staff writes reviews for this site. What you hear, think, and or read is not always the truth. You are entitled to your opinion but you should be careful stating what "you hear" as fact.

I would like to see the property manager (since he does read these reviews) give an honest overview of what is in the near future for Kenilworth. I plan on moving to Asheville, and the Inn is of interest for me as a place to live as I get oriented to the area, before I buy. When I look at the reviews, most date back to 2005, and are the negative outweigh the positive. There is a lot of dwelling on the "amentities". Since they don't exist, and have been "promised" for years, why not take them off the website and other promotional materials, since that creates expectations from the renters and bad feelings. I would like to know where Kenilworth stands NOW, in reality. What were the renovations and when were they done? Are the apts. really noisy and what are the rules to prevent this?

DON'T even consider moving into this apt. building. The reality as of NOW is as follows: The property manager is so unprofessional towards tenants, he needs to be fired! He talks to tenants badly ABOUT other tenants; he has screaming altercations with tenants who dare to disagree with him on any issue and harasses them to the point where some eventually move out. Kenilworth has been sued by tenants several times. Do NOT get on the property manager's bad side - EVER - you cannot win. He is always right! He truly is unstable and should not be in any management position - period. The halls and elevators reek of dog urine and from over-flowing trash cans that aren't emptied in a timely manner and NEVER cleaned. There is mold behind several apt. walls due to water leaking in when it rains. Your maintenance requests are seldom done in a timely manner or not at all. The heating and cooling units are a joke. The owner, Frank, does building renovations and lawncare on the cheap. It is heartbreaking to see the current state the owner has allowed this beautiful, historic building to disintegrate to. Even though Frank is often on-site, he leaves the property manager to run the day-to-day operations - huge mistake. More tenants are bailing out now more than ever, even if they have to break their lease, due to this manager. Frank should have gotten rid of him years ago but for whatever reason, the owner has kept him on to the detrimant of his business. Don't be fooled by the outward appearance of this building- this place is rotting on the inside. It's a crying shame!
