Kensington Place let us down, big time. We needed to move to Asheville from Atlanta, and fast (1.5 weeks). We had little time to mess around and the staff at Kensington made us feel like we'd be okay. Not so.

Halfway though the process of reserving our apartment, communication from them stopped. Despite my (many) phone calls over several days, they would not "get it in gear" to help us finalize what we needed to. All they had to do was CONFIRM that we had the apartment (as our credit and background checks had all cleared) but they would not call us back. Getting faxes of the agreements and applications from them was like pulling teeth. They wouldn't help out in any way. Even when I spoke with them in person they were too busy "helping other people" - ALL DAY LONG. Everything was finalized but they simply could not say "okay, you're good to move in, here's your actual lease". That was really frustrating, and very stressful.

We ended up going with another apartment complex that really went out of their way to place us. We had the agreement, returned it, and had the apartment confirmed in one day.

Two weeks later Kensington called us asking if we were still interested in the apartment because they were still holding it for us. Stupid move on their part to goof around for so long--we'd already been living in Asheville for a week and a half at that point.

I will say this: the property is beautiful, and the [model] apartments are very, very nice. Too bad it's such an organizational nightmare, and from what I see on the other reviews regarding the actual apartments, not at all it seems.

I'm rating it good below because of what I saw on the outside, but I would NOT recommend putting yourself through the hassle that we did, especially if you need it fast.

Not surprised as a former resident of Kensington Place ourselves from out of state. They will and continue to, play you for what you are worth, and if they can get more money from another party for the same apartment they go that was because Kensington and Asheville in general is all about GREED besides other nasty secrets once you go there a while... They violate the State of NC Tenat & Renters rights statutes as we have found other "managed complexes" due regularly saying anything to get you in and then later on treating you like 3rd rate and using guilt and threats to force you to pay more and more each year... It is NOT right and needs to be investigated by regulators in our opinion. We even knew of individuals they rented to for HIGH dollar rent in cash, regardless those individuals later on were found involved with the recent FBI sting operation of illegal alien janitorial services on the news..
