Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
I really really like this apartment (one bedroom). I just moved in last year, and unfortunately will likely have to move when my lease expires (in about 6-8 months) because of my career.
I live on the second floor and would prefer to live on the third because I hate the inevitable noises from people living above me. That's just a personal preference, and the people above me are surprisingly quiet (I actually thought no one lived there for the first few months). I never hear anyone else, and my upstairs neighbors are really good about not being noisy.
Things I especially like: the layout of the apartment really works well and there is a lot of storage space. The kitchen has plenty of room for one person, even if the person is a bit of a packrat and likes to cook. Maintenance is really great- I had a problem with my water heater and they came out late at night on a Friday and reassured me that it wasn't going to explode, and came out again the next day (a Saturday) to replace it. They're very nice- another time I lost my keys and one of them was just about to leave for the day and he offered to unlock the office so he could get a spare for me, then came with me to make sure it was the right one and so I wouldn't have to go back to the office.
I like the wooded atmosphere, and it's nice to be able to jump right onto 54 or head down to the Farmer's Market (which is fantastic). Parking is usually great except on Sunday nights for some reason. I can't vouch for the heating since it's been pretty warm so far, and I don't know how they will handle the move out. The apartments were renovated in the last 10 years (I think) so everything still works pretty well, although I would not say things are top quality (therefore may not last too long).
The only negative so far (and it's not a major negative) is that the office staff is always, always busy, to the point of making you feel like you are bothering them if you need anything. Before I moved in, I came by several times and they didn't give me the lease to read and sign until my actual move in date. It's also sometimes hard to get in touch with them- if you call, it goes to voicemail, even during office hours, and they only sometimes reply to emails. They're nice enough, they just seem very very busy. They should hire another person if they're so swamped all the time. However, they were really great about working with me when negotiating for the apartment.
Overall, this is my favorite apartment that I've lived in (after 7 years of renting)- I wish I could just transport it to my new city next year!
