Ok,
First off, I needed an apartment in about 3 days, so my search was pretty hasty. I settled on Berkshire Manor West because it was cheap and the utilities were included. I didn't figure that I'd be living in a shack in Guadalajara when I toured the show unit. The upfitting that has been done inside is of the very lowest quality. The floors are not level, the walls are very hollow, and the wall covering very easily comes off. I lived for the first 4 months w/ my illegal immigrant worker neighbors while they packed what seemed like 8-10 workers into a single 2 bedroom aparment. Safety is an issue at BMW. My roommate had his car broken into, and a very explicit note left on his car. The staff is OK, but they don't give you the proper notification when they need to enter your apartment (this is a North Carolina law that they're breaking). The maintenence guys reek up your apartment w/ cigarette odor. The caulking in my brand new bath tub was gone after about 5 months. The dryer ventillation is connected to your neighbor below's, and your apartment will smell like mildew from time to time. Direct TV goes out when it rains. ROACHES are a huge problem because they live in the walls of BMW, and the insides of the apartment structure are not completely sealed (look in the back of the bottom corner kitchen cabinet, it has no backing). You can hear EVERYTHING in your building, and I was lucky enough to have a trombone or sax player in the apt under me. Heather and Rebecca are nice enough, but this place is only worth about $400 when you can live at Town House in crappy conditions w/out the bugs for $600 and be so much closer to campus. Stay away from BMW, it's the slums.
