For the most part, BMW is a great place to live for a few reasons. 1. It's safe and quiet - no sketchy people around. I've left a grill, cooler, and gardening supplies on my porch for 10 months now, and no one has bothered it. 2. It's convenient - the shopping center is walkable. And if you're up for a nice stroll, you can walk into Carrboro for dinner or the farmers market. The CEX bus also takes you right into the west side of campus. There is also Hank Anderson park nearby. 3. It's cheap - I locked into a good deal, I'm sure its gone up though. But even if its gone up, having water, cable, internet and washer and dryer included is great. 4. No bugs. We had bugs for 2 weeks, and the pest control guys took care of them very efficiently. 5. Plenty of parking. It might not be directly in front of your door, but its not too far away. 6. Pool and workout room are nice, though workout room only has 3 cardio machines and is often full at night and early am.
There are only a few drawbacks. 1. Electricity is expensive. I blame it on the power company, less than efficient appliances (though some apts have new ones), and drafty windows and doors. 2. Maitenance. The maitenance guys are super nice, and come out quickly, but he's literally had to come out 4 times to fix my door and its still drafty and doesn't close well unless its dead bolted. 3. Staff are sticklers. I really enjoy the staff and they are always friendly, but once they've decided on a certain policy they aren't going to bend. No flexibility what so ever. 4. Renovations are shoddy. Everything looks good from far away, but up close, nothing was done w/ any craftmanship. Our cabinets are crooked. Drops of paint and glue are all over the place and impossible to remove. 5. Cell phone reception. On the side closest to the shopping center, Cingular is the only cell phone service you can get reception for. You'll get 1 bar for Alltel and many a few others if you live closer toward Poplar Ave.
