I have lived here for four years now, and there are reasons why I love it and reasons why I am beginning to hate it.



The apts from the outside aren?t much to look at - 70s style brick with shutters badly in need of painting. Inside the apts are great (if you get assigned to one whose prior residents took care of the place), among the largest 2 bedrooms in town. The bathrooms are cool (2 bathrooms with a sink and toilet, a room connecting these two bathroom that contains a bath/shower). Bedrooms are next to each other, a downside since many builders got smart and started putting bedrooms on opposite sides of the apt. One bedroom is significantly larger than the other, which can cause some trouble (or at least coin-flipping) for roommates. The price is probably the best in town, for what you get.



Make nice with the maintenance guys and you?ll never have troubles. Something?s broken' They fix it within a day or two. Stove burners not working' They?ll bring you a new stove. Since I?ve lived here, Ive gotten a new fridge, stove, bathtub tiling, and carpet shampooing. Beware, though, when they say they repaint before you move in. They won?t unless you keep on them.



Now the downside, in the past couple of years the rising # of apts in the area have driven down demand. Badly in need of residents, Carolina Apts (and more importantly, it?s shady neighboring communities) have begun leasing to less-than-ideal renters. As a result, automobile vandalism and theft have really risen, and apt break-ins are becoming more common, too. We do have security systems in the apts, but no one ever sets them. Plus, the windows arent of the highest quality. The window locks are literally two screws that you twist onto the sides of the window pane. I?m a girl, and I could pop them off if I lifted the window hard enough.



Here?s the dilemma - I pay 660 per month here, a steal compared to my friends, all of whom pay no less than 750-800 for 2 bedrooms in the carrboro/chapel hill area. i?ve never been robbed. it?s on two good buslines, less than 1 mile from 2 foodlions, 1 harris teeter, the post office, banks, and an ABC store.



if youre all about appearances, this isnt the place for you. if youre a poor college student whose main concerns are money and convenience, then you should consider living here. just be sure to request an apt on the 1st or 2nd floor (not the ground/basement level) and definitely ask for an apt in the front cul-de-sac (not in the center section of the complex). It?s more quiet there, there?s more ample parking, and there are fewer kids running around, riding bikes, and sprinting out in front of your car.



one more thing, they have good move-in specials. make sure they offer you one.
