It sounds like some reviewers need to get over their xenophobia and racism. Yes, there are a lot of Mexican immigrants living in the complex -- so what' They're just normal people, not some sort of infestation, for goodness sake!
I lived here during my junior and senior years at Carolina (2001-2003). It was a good place to live for what it was. My apartment was large and perfectly set up for roommates. A lot of natural light. The walls were pretty thick and I only heard my neighbor when he played music with strong base. Noise from outside was mostly children playing during the afternoon. There was always ample parking. The bus came every ten minutes and went straight down Main Street to Franklin Street. I used the "gym" often and although there were not many pieces of equipment, I was usually the only one there. I swam in the pool a couple of times, but usually it was crowded with children.
Maintenance problems were always taken care of quickly. The office staff was nice any time I talked to them. I am a young woman, as was my roommate, and I always felt safe. I never heard of any break-ins or vandelism while there. My rent was never raised and they didn't try to throw in any extra charges when I moved out.
