My roomates and I had a relatively Positive experience here UNTIL NOW, May 2006. Since we were seniors, we were told on numerous occasions that a 9 month lease was available. Our parents had the same understanding with several phone calls to apartment managers AND EVEN signed a Guarantor Agreement with the NINE month term in WRITING.
When in came time to sign the lease agreement, we believed, and were NOT told OTHERWISE, that we were signing a 9 month Lease. You could say that we were TRUSTING in the integrity of the people and the company we were dealing with. Lo and Behold, we actually signed a 12 month lease. We can accept SOME responsibility for not reading the lease closely, BUT in actuality we feel deceived because ALL of our conversations told management we wanted a 9 month lease,not to mention the SIGNED Guarantor Agreement stating Nine Months.
Now it seems that management is telling us they will not deviate from the 12 months. We all have plans that will have us living out of Chapel Hill by late May or Early June so we are going to be stuck for 2 months rent for an empty apartment.
Management and ownership has basically 2 options - they can enforce the terms of the lease and earn 2 months of ill-gotten rent. OR THEY CAN DO THE RIGHT THING and let us leave at the end of May based on all of our understandings as stated above.
CURRENTLY, we have been through 3 management levels and we will keep going higher to find someone that values honesty, integrity and fair dealing. Of course, if necessary, we will pursue legal options as well.

Management DID NOT do the right thing- They forced us to pay for 2 months rent after we had graduated in May and left Chapel Hill.RENT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! Be sure that you read every word in your lease and understand it - IF NOT, YOU WILL be a victim.
